2024 -2025 FGRSC Announced 

The 2024 -2025 Faculty Grant for Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity (FGRSC) call for proposals is now live! The Office of Research & Graduate Education will be hosting a virtual application workshop on Friday 2/16 from 12pm-1:30pm. Email officeofresearch@chapman.edu to RSVP and receive the Zoom link. 

 

AI Internal Funding Opportunity

The Fowler School of Engineering has released their CFP for “Training Program in Trusted Artificial Intelligence” made possible through funding from the McGovern Foundation. This funding opportunity aims to engage full-time faculty from across campus who are interested in facets of trust for artificial intelligence, a problem which requires an interdisciplinary solution. The deadline for proposals is March 1, 2024. For more information please reach out to engineering@chapman.edu.

 

Effort Reporting 

Effort Reporting has concluded for the 2022-2023 time period. Thank you to all faculty who received, reviewed, and certified effort reports for yourselves and your staff! A special thank you to Leslie Yoshimizu, John Burckert, and our partners in Financial Services, and Development for their hard work in putting together this system! 

 

New NSF Training Modules

The National Science Foundation launched four interactive online research security training modules for researchers and institutions across the U.S. These modules are designed to facilitate principled international collaboration in an open, transparent, and secure environment that safeguards the nation's research ecosystem.

 

Catalyzing Across Sectors to Advance the Bioeconomy Survey

CASA-Bio (a cross-organizational activity), is gathering input from the research community on research ideas that could advance the bioeconomy in four upcoming virtual town hall meetings. Visit their website to learn how to participate. 

 

Department of Defense Funding 

Are you considering applying for U.S. Department of Defense-related funding? Does the project include publication restrictions, working with controlled unclassified information (CUI) or potentially restricted items, information, or technology? Please reach out early to AVP Jen Donais at donais@chapman.edu. 

 

Check your eRA Commons account

Starting January 25, 2024, NIH requires all Senior/Key Personnel and Other Significant Contributors listed on the R&R Senior/Key Person Profile Form to have a valid eRA Commons ID in order to submit applications. Please check your eRA Commons profile to ensure it is active.

 

Successful Funding Reminders

Planning to apply for funding? Start early to ensure a successful submission! All proposals for sponsored projects (grants, contracts, etc.) must undergo Institutional Review and Approval prior to submission. Refer to our Proposal Submission Workflow webpage for important internal deadlines for review and submission. Disclosure System Pilot Project

The offices of Research and Graduate Education and Institutional Compliance are teaming up to implement the Cayuse Outside Interests/Conflicts of Interest disclosure module. Beginning the week of February 12th, the campus will be conducting a pilot implementation of the new system. The system will roll out to all faculty and investigators in 2025. IRB Overview Workshop

The IRB will be holding a hybrid workshop on April 2nd from 12:00pm to 1:30pm in AF2 201. All attendees are encouraged to RSVP to receive the Zoom invitation. This workshop will cover many overview topics of the IRB.

 

Early Career Faculty Program and Learning Community

Meet and learn from your colleagues the second Friday of every month from 12:00 to 1:30 PM at the early career faculty program. Meetings are in-person at both Orange and Rinker, lunch is provided, and live-stream between Orange and Rinker is offered. 

 

ORCID for Researchers

Federal agencies are increasingly requiring researchers to have a unique, persistent identifier (ORCID ID) to apply for funding. Leatherby Libraries is hosting a workshop on Friday 2/16 from 12pm-1pm to help you learn how to setup your ORCID profile. 

 

Faculty Development Resource

As Chapman University is an institutional member of the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity (NCFDD), Chapman faculty have free access to a great suite of webinars, live zoom sessions, 14-day writing challenges, and other resources to support your research and scholarship. Check out this month’s webinar on: “Cultivating your Network of Mentors, Sponsors, & Collaborators”.  Activate your free NCFDD membership.

Do you love data? Visit the Leatherby Libraries during Love Data Week from February 12-16 to celebrate data with the Library Research and Data Services (LRDS) Team at their Love Data Week Table! 

Spring 2024 Applications for the Supporting Open Access Research and Scholarship Program (SOARS) are now open! Assistant and associate full-time professors interested in receiving financial support to support publishing their research, scholarship, or creative activity in an Open Access journal are encouraged to apply. Applications are due February 28, 2024.

The Leatherby Libraries is pleased to offer access to Current Protocols, the most extensive interdisciplinary collection of peer-reviewed, authoritative, and regularly updated step-by-step research techniques and procedures available.

 

SPS Pre Award & Non-Financial Post Award: The first Tuesday of every month from 11:00-12:00pm. Zoom Link.
