As we enter the second half of 2024, we want to provide an update on our efforts to deliver repairs to Flinders Pier while ensuring we preserve its heritage values.
Last year we successfully completed updates to the Flinders Foreshore Conservation Management Plan in collaboration with Mornington Peninsula Shire Council. This plan serves as a document to
guide our conservation efforts and ensure any works are in line with heritage preservation principles.
Following the completion of the Conservation Management Plan, we have prepared an Options Report to examine various approaches to the repair works, ensuring they offer the best value for money. This includes detailed proposals for different repair packages, considering both financial and structural feasibility.
Since our last update, a Heritage Consultant has been engaged to undertake technical studies and assessments and
prepare a comprehensive Heritage Impact Assessment. This critical assessment involves gathering detailed marine archaeological information from beneath the pier and conducting extensive marine ecological studies. These evaluations are essential to understand the potential impacts of the repair works on the pier's historical and ecological context.
Once completed, this assessment will support our permit application under the Heritage Act and enable a determination on the most feasible repair option.
