Upcoming Office Closure

Our office will be closed in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, Nov. 23rd and Friday, Nov. 24th. Please note that proposals with sponsor deadlines between Nov. 23rd through Dec. 1st will require additional lead time. Consult the list below or our Proposal Preparation Timeline for final dates to submit the full draft of your application to Sponsored Projects Services (SPS) for review (the Cayuse SP proposal should also be routed and have received unit approvals by these dates as well).

 

3rd Annual CHOC & UCI Rare Disease Symposium and Family Conference

CHOC is now accepting the submission of scientific abstracts in the field of research related to rare disorders, orphan product research studies, or public health projects for their 3rd Annual CHOC-UCI Rare Disease Conference and Family Symposium from March 6-8th 2024.

Abstracts are due January 26th, 2024 at 11:59pm. 

 

News for all PIs: Required Reporting of Effort on Federally Funded Grants

Our office will soon be sending out effort reports to all faculty who have conducted federally funded research. These reports along with instructions will be sent directly to PI's under the subject line "REQUIRED: Effort Report Certification". Please watch your inbox for this email. The deadline to certify and return the reports back to our office is December 4th at 5pm.

 

New National Endowment for the Humanities Research Initiative

National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) announces new research initiatives on Humanities Perspectives on Artificial Intelligence supporting numerous AI-related projects through various funding opportunities for, e.g., humanities research centers on AI, individual faculty awards, fellowships, summer stipends, collaborative research opportunities, or professional development programs.

 

Changes to NIH Data Management and Sharing Plan Requires Prior Approval

Did you know that complying with your Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Plan is a term and condition of your NIH award? Any changes to your approved DMS Plan require submission of a timely formal prior approval request to NIH using the Prior Approval Module in eRA Commons. Please see NOT-OD-23-185 for instructions on preparing the prior approval request, and reach out to your Pre-Award Administrator for assistance with submitting the request.

 

Fall 2023 NSF Virtual Grants Conference 

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is hosting the Fall 2023 NSF Virtual Grants Conference from December 4 – 7, 2023. Registration is now open! For those who cannot attend the live conference, all recorded conference sessions will be available on-demand shortly after the event. This is a free event. Anyone can register.  

 

Research Grant Budget Workshop

This hybrid workshop will provide investigators with a solid foundational understanding of common terminology used in grant proposal budgets as well as detailed information on how to develop a grant proposal budget and prepare a high quality budget justification. This workshop will be helped on Wednesday 11/15 from 2-3pm.

 

IRB - Review of Modifications Updates

In October, the IRB updated its guidelines on Review of Modifications as follow:

  • Outlined workflow for submitting changes in funding source for a study with an approved protocol.
  • clarified that a modification is needed if an incident constitutes an unanticipated problem; such modifications need to be submitted to the IRB within 5 business days of awareness of the incident, instead of within 24 hours.
