Click here ![]() A Message from the Acting Dean of the School of Communication![]() Dear Students of the School of Communication, This spring, I encourage you to set some goals and priorities for yourself. When I was in graduate school, I learned the value of planning ahead and strategizing—instead of always stressing and having to fix “emergencies” in my life. The more strategic I was, the fewer unexpected problems I encountered and the more successful I became in school. This process starts with an honest reflection and inventory of what’s working for you and what’s not—and identifying changes that would improve the results that you get. For example, are your learning and study habits working for you? Most people arrive at college assuming that they know how to do both; when in reality, the strategies that worked for you in high school need to be refined for success in college. One of the best ways to refresh your approach to reading, preparing, studying, and engaging in your classes is to visit your instructors and ask for advice. Ask them what works for them—how they manage their time, how they organize a big writing project, and how they read new material for greater understanding (believe it or not, we
are still learning every day). Give it a try! I am committed to seeing you flourish as a student in the School of Communication. If I can assist you on that journey, please contact me. Our students the heart of our mission, and you are very important to me. Jennifer Jennifer H.
