Lake Eildon National Park
Fraser Block campgrounds

Community update | May 2025

The Fraser Block campgrounds in Lake Eildon National Park – Devil Cove, Candlebark and Lakeside – are nestled on the shores of Lake Eildon, on Taungurung Country, and have played host to generations of campers.

We are updating the ageing water and wastewater infrastructure to ensure these systems meet today’s environmental standards, so that visitors can continue to enjoy camping at Lake Eildon National Park for years to come.

Stage 2: Long-term solution and updated visitor facilities

We are installing new accessible toilet blocks at Lakeside, Candlebark and Devil Cove Campgrounds to enable more Victorians to go camping in the great outdoors.

Each new toilet block features a state-of-the-art dry-vault system, removing the current reliance on running water, which is currently carted-in to the park. This provides an environmentally sustainable and cost-effective way to manage amenities in the park. Non-drinking water for hand washing is provided by a gravity fed rainwater tank.

This long-term solution addresses the issues caused by ageing water and wastewater infrastructure. It meets today’s environmental standards.

We are also planning on replacing the toilets at Herb Fitzroy Day Visitor Area with a new accessible toilet block at the boat ramp car park, approximately 250m away.

These works are funded by the Victorian Government’s ‘Victoria’s Great Outdoors’ program.

These updates will bring the facilities at the Fraser Block at Lake Eildon in line with most of Parks Victoria’s campgrounds and ensure that visitors can continue to enjoy camping at Lake Eildon National Park in the future.

Next steps

We are going to tender for the construction phase in late May.

Pending the granting of final permits and approvals, works are scheduled to take place during the second half of 2025 and are expected to be complete by the end of the year.

We will keep you up to date on project milestones and provide you with more details when they are confirmed.

Important information

As with most of the campgrounds managed by Parks Victoria, campers in Lake Eildon National Park need to bring their own drinking water with them.

We are working to keep as much camping open to the public during the construction period however there may be some temporary closures to campgrounds in the Fraser Block.

However, Jerusalem Creek Campground in Lake Eildon National Park is open and available throughout the construction period. Other nearby options include Neds Gully and Cooks Mill Camping Areas in Cathedral Range State Park.
