What's On in the Arts in Central Otago - October
September has seen the resurgence of arts events after what feels like such a long hiatus, and it looks like we are spoilt for choice in October and right through into the end of 2022! The Blossom Festival was officially opened by the launch of the Central Otago Art Society Blossom Festival Exhibition. A hearty congratulations to all award winners. October
launches the highly anticipated and much loved Across the Bridge celebrations with a bit of a change in offerings for 2022. This year we are spoilt by the launch of the Bannockburn Arts School with a selection of creative workshops which have drawn registrations from across the South Island. The Artists of Bannockburn exhibition will show again in the super Cairnmuir Station Woolshed space. The opening celebration happens on the 7th of October from 5pm - 7pm and the exhibition
will show on the 8th and 9th of October open from 10am - 3.30pm daily. Expect some amazing and unique artworks. This year's guest artist is Susie Ruddenklau from Wanaka. In mid-October The Poetry Party is bringing Live Poetry with Local Artists to Central Stories. Everyone is welcome to come along and hear the voices of internationally acclaimed poets such as Michael Harlow and Brian Turner. Amateur poets are also welcome to
come along and guests will be invited to read their own work. Michael Harlow will launch his new publication, "Renoir's Bicycle". Entry is by koha, and everyone is welcome. Toward the end of October tickets will be available for the highly anticipaterd Cover to Cover event. Fiona Sussman, award-winning author and excellent story teller, will be talking with Annie Villiers at Olivers café and bar on Friday 2nd December at 6pm about her new enthralling page-turner, The Doctor’s Wife. They will chat about Fiona’s work, her own fascinating story as well as her three previous novels. Tickets $35 include a
glass of bubbles and canapes on arrival. Tickets are limited and will be available from Monday 24th October from [email protected] and [email protected] This will be a great evening, not to be missed.” Over the weekend I visited Forfar Road Gallery and Collectibles on Scotland Street in Roxburgh for the first time. If you haven't already popped in, make sure you get along to see a beautifully curated selection of works by local artists as well as a unique array of mid-century treasures and many other wonderful things! Get amoungst it and enjoy all the offerings, in the arts, in October.
