Working Together for Healthier Harvests

Andy Diercks, a fourth-generation potato farmer from the small village of Coloma in central Wisconsin, sat down with UW–Madison Extension specialist Amanda Gevens to discuss the ongoing partnership between his farm and the university. The close partnerships between UW–Madison researchers and growers across Wisconsin ensure quality crops and long-term viability for local farms. 

From the article: “They’re not afraid to ask us to change, and we don’t have any problem asking why they’re trying to get us to make some of the changes,” Diercks says. “It’s a great relationship. It’s frankly one of the main reasons I’ve stayed in the farm."

      The KidWind Challenge is a hands-on renewable energy competition that engages students in STEM. Student teams bring small-scale wind turbines or solar devices to the Challenge where they will be tested for power output.
