Hello |
 |
What's On in the Arts in Central Otago - August.

Words just say what you want them to say; they don’t know any better * Cover to Cover is calling all booklovers, wordsmiths and writers and readers of everything! We have a real treat coming up. Cover to Cover is a new and exciting venture - conceived, nurtured and grown by those of us at the Central Otago District Arts Trust (CODAT) who have a love of the written word in all its glorious forms. Our first event is eagerly anticipated – we will be in conversation with Fiona Sussman, an award-winning novelist and short story writer. Fiona, a former GP, was born in Johannesburg, South Africa and immigrated to New Zealand 32 years ago. She is proud to be a part-time resident of Central Otago and we are proud to be able to share this event with you. We will listen to Fiona read from her published work; discover more about her background; talk about her three vastly different books; discuss some of her characters and find out what is coming next. There will be an
opportunity for you to ask questions too. Fiona’s third novel, Addressed to Greta, was published in late 2020 and was awarded the NZ Booklovers Award for Best Adult Fiction in 2021. If you have not already read ‘Greta’, you have a treat ahead. Paper Plus will have her instore soon and there will be book sales at the author’s talk. So pop the date in your
diary now – 5pm, Sunday, 26th September at Olivers café in Clyde – just perfect timing for rounding off the 65th Blossom Festival weekend. Tickets @ $30 will be on sale from the beginning of September through [email protected] or [email protected]. This
will include a glass of bubbles on arrival, along with some delicious Olivers’ canapès. A cash bar will also be available and you may like to stay on and have dinner at Olivers restaurant afterwards. Central Otago has a strong and proud literary landscape which has nurtured and produced many exceptional and beloved local writers – novelists, poets, screenwriters, essayists, memoirists, biographers, gardening and cookbook writers and children’s/young adult authors. So come along and support this very first Cover to Cover event! There will be more to follow ……. * A L Kennedy; The Role of Notable Silences in Scottish History.
