Wet weather disruptionsDyers Pass Road will be open tonight, with no closure in place, so if you’re taking the Dyers Pass Road route please drive cautiously and to the conditions. The road will also be open to two lanes of traffic during the day on Friday. We’ve had a wild week or two on Dyers Pass Road, with several weather-related slips resulting in a couple of overnight road closures. Due to the wet weather no work has been able to take place on the safety improvements project this week, during either the day or night closures. We’ve continued to use manual stop/go where necessary to get traffic through site, and are expecting to switch over to the new temporary traffic lights later next week, weather depending. The lights have been installed on site and as weather allows, they will be tested to make sure they operate as expected when we’re ready to turn them on. Electronic messaging boards will be in place at key locations to advise of any traffic changes, and to let you know which route you can take. Keeping you updated We want to make it as easy as possible for the community to know when Dyers Pass Road is open or closed – especially during wet weather when we can’t work and the road is able to stay open. While the electronic message boards are the best way to keep you updated at short notice, we acknowledge that the locations of these may not suit everyone. Wherever possible, we will update community Facebook pages. This won’t always be possible depending on the time of day or night that changes may occur, so the electronic message boards will still be the best way to decide which route to take. You are welcome to text or call Higgins on 027 227 5849, anytime. Our traffic team has been manually monitoring the messaging boards to make sure the messages are updating in real-time, and we hope this has made a positive difference. If you experience any issues, please get in touch on Higgins Contractors’ dedicated 24-hour phone: 027 227 5849. Thank you for your patience while we’ve been navigating a fairly disruptive start to the safety improvement work. Cafe drop-insWe’re holding drop-in sessions throughout the works so that the public can come and meet with the contractor. The next will be held at Sign of the Takahe Café between 12 – 1pm on Tuesday 9 August 2022. Keep in touch This newsletter is the best way to stay updated about this project.
