High-rise fall survivor Birdie, uses up one of his nine lives

Birdie lost one of his nine lives when he fell out of a window on the 6th floor of a high-rise building.  He was rushed to Animal Care Centers with two broken legs and a fractured hard palate.  His right hind limb was catastrophically injured and needed surgery immediately before infection set in.  With funds from our Emergency Fund and our colleagues at the Animal Surgical Center we were able to provide Birdie with the care he so desperately needed.  Unfortunately even emergency surgery couldn't save the leg but we did save his life.  Birdie will do just fine once he adapts to life on three legs. Without our Emergency Fund and your help, we would not have been able to save Birdie. If you would like to help the next kitty that needs life-saving treatment, please consider donating.

It’s never too late for a home . . .

Nearly 18-year-old Shmoo recently lost her home and we thought we might be the last stop on her journey.  Until we met Tammie . . .

Tammie prefers to open her heart and home to those sometimes harder-to-place senior kitties.  When Tammie met Shmoo it was love at first site.

Shmoo is currently defying other odds and is still in touch with her inner kitten.   This little old gal is  reportedly hurdling over baby gates in Olympian style and has had no problem scaling right up to Tammie's high bed.

Senior cats have a lot of love to give and the rewards of adopting one are unparalleled.  Ask about our Seniors for Seniors program!

Kitty Purry Beats the Odds

Kitty Purry was hit by a car and found by the side of the road, shivering in a snow bank. She was brought to Animal Care Centers in Brooklyn where a plea was sent out for a rescue to help her.  Responding to the plea, we sent her straight from ACC to Veterinary Emergency Group in Brooklyn.  Although she was unable to walk and her prognosis was not good, we decided to give her a chance and see if there was any improvement overnight.  By morning, she put one paw forward and little by little this tiny fighter was walking.  After three days in the emergency hospital, funded by the Ladew Foundation, Kitty Purry was well enough to come to us in Oyster Bay. With the help of Best Friends Animal Transport, she arrived safely at our sanctuary and was adopted into a loving home on Valentine's Day.  Thanks to our Emergency Fund, and all of you who generously donated, Kitty Purry, now known as Gracie Goose, hasn't looked back once.
