Central Otago District Arts Trust

Hello

What's On in the Arts in Central Otago - December

Work by Nona Shackleton from the Dunedin School of Art on show as part of the Summer Series Exhibition at Central Stories. Image by Thomas Lord.

We are very excited to announce that a committee has been formed to bring the inaugural 'Summer Series' to Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery. Plans are well under way to hold an exhibition of works by Central Otago Arts Trail artists, alongside those of artists from the Dunedin School of Art, over the summer months of January and February 2022. The show will include jewellery, sculpture, ceramics, photography, painting and printmaking and more - with an exciting mix of contemporary and traditional art works. Taking full advantage of the summer months of January and February and the Alexandra Markets in Pioneer Park the wonderful people from Central Stories plan to host an afternoon or evening of entertainment every week including music, performance and painting demonstrations. Expect to be entertained by Waiata Theatre Productions, Les Richardson and Janice Millis, The Mundi Trio and other local and national talent. In addition, they are working on an Eden Hore pop-up exhibition of images and video in January and a gala auction planned for the end of February. Keep an eye out on our 'What's On' calendar and social media pages for further details.

Art at the Packing Shed is happening again in January. Visitors and locals are welcome to enjoy a weekend of art and craft markets, a cash and carry exhibition of works by artists from across the South Island, live music and delicious food and drinks. The Packing Shed Gallery and Cafe has had some major changes over the last year, the established gardens remain, but a whole new garden area has been developed behind the old sheds and the existing buildings have been rebuilt and refurbished. Art at the Packing Shed will be a great excuse to get along and take a look!

A new venture which will showcase images of Central Otago is opening in Naseby. The Stardust Photo Gallery and Art Space, 5 Earne Street, Naseby, will be open Tuesdays - Sundays, 10am - 5pm daily, or by arrangement. Holiday season is the perfect time to check out our galleries and artists studios in Central Otago - scroll down for information on local exhibitions or check out www.centralotagoarts.com for Central Otago gallery and studio profiles.

We wish you all a very happy festive season!
