Good afternoon,

The US Department of Commerce and Census Bureau released the monthly Import/Export data today.

With 3,552,406 barrels, imported beer grew by 3.7% in April 2022 compared to April 2021.

Mexican imports are driving nearly all growth, with an increase of 269,144 barrels for April 2022 compared to April 2021.

Recall that growth rates for February and March were up double digits, but we were comparing to easy comps for those months. Contrary to those trends, we have tougher comps from April 2021 (imports in April 2021 were up 27% compared to April 2020). Considering those tough comps, growth of 3.7% is promising, with Mexican imported brands continuing as a key growth driver for the category. For perspective, domestic estimated shipments were down -5.9% for April 2022 compared to last year.
