January newsletter

Dear Euraxess subscriber,

Welcome to our January newsletter. The first issue of 2017 includes an update on Wellcome's public engagement funding, a call for EURAXESS contact points and a reminder to check out our new site.

Wellcome Trust Public Engagement funding

There has been a recent refresh of Wellcome’s Public Engagement funding: the multiple individual streams that existed previously have been condensed into one- the Public Engagement Fund.

The fund is open to ‘anyone with a great idea for engaging the public in conversations about health-related science and research’, and is directed towards teams rather than individuals.

There are no deadlines for application. Decisions are made on a rolling basis and will take between 10-12 weeks. Applications are being accepted from this month.

Could you be a EURAXESS contact point?

Do you work at a reseach institution in the UK?
We have developed a network of Euraxess contacts across UK universities to support and encourage researcher mobility.

The local contacts  provide up-to-date information and advice on mobility to and from their research institution, including advice on banking, explaining medical rights and employment status.

Euraxess contact points will receive assistance and support in the provision of researcher mobility and career development-related services; the opportunity to take advantage of dedicated training workshops; and will get access to the Euraxess Extranet, a dedicated portal for engaging and sharing of best practice and support materials with a Europe-wide network of practitioners.

Latest Newton Fund call

The aim of the Newton Professional Development and Engagement call is to support the professional development and community engagement of Brazilian public and civil society institutions, science museums and botanic gardens, by supporting them to develop or improve specific skills relevant to the social and economic development of Brazil.

This call is open to Brazilian institutions, but must be delivered in partnership with an expert counterpart organisation (or individual specialist) in the UK (e.g. counterpart agencies in the same field, universities, non profit organisations, specialist research centres, individual researchers/experts).
