Click here After court declares Prabowo-Gibran's victory in 2024 election, Indonesia's democracy is at risk Last week, Indonesia Constitutional Court upheld the victory of Defence Minister Prabowo Subianto and his running mate, President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, in the 2024 presidential election. The verdict rejected two complaints filed by two losing parties alleging that the election results were fraud. With the verdict, Prabowo is set to become the 8th Indonesian president after two previous attempts to run for the country's top job. The former military general has announced that he planned to expand coalition parties supporting his administration. The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), which backed the losing candidates, have declared opposition to Prabowo. The NasDem (National Democracy) party, which backed another presidential candidate, has declared to switch sides and support Prabowo. the National Awakening Party (PKB) is expected to join the bandwagon. It seems Prabowo wants to emulate Jokowi's strategy in running administration with no apparent opposition. If this happens, Indonesia's tattering democracy will face risks without a proper check-balance process, again. Share your concerns and analysis on this topic here.
