Wet weather disruptionsKia ora It’s been a relief to see the sun and have milder temperatures this week, giving maintenance crews the opportunity to finish off tidying up debris after the recent slips. The Higgins maintenance team will be doing some tidy up work during the night next week while the road is closed. Wherever possible they will be piggybacking their work onto our closures to help reduce daytime disruption for road users. The weather caused some delays last week so the traffic lights won’t be operational until later next week – subject to favourable weather (the forecast isn't looking great at all!). Testing of the lights is in progress. Thank you for your patience while we’ve been navigating a fairly disruptive start to the safety improvement work. Electronic signage We had some feedback about the messaging on the electronic and static message boards being confusing for the timing of the closures. After discussion about how to make it clearer, while also meeting requirements for the use of this type of signage, we have updated each of the three frames. If you see electronic sign boards that say 'ROAD CLOSING AT 7.30PM - the road will still be open until 7.30pm. We will be in the process of changing over the signage to indicate the night closure detail. The orange road signage needs to be manually removed and changed which takes a little time. The electronic message boards will be the most up to date information on the road status. We appreciate the feedback from the community and hope that this change is clearer for everyone.
