June 2024Rory Inside this issue:
Heartfelt thanks (and an update!) on Rory!Rory, now called Kismet A few weeks ago, we sent out a plea for help with Rory, an 8-month-old kitty who was hit by a car and left on the side of the road with two broken legs, one so severely damaged, it couldn't be saved, and the other, also fractured, had to be splinted. You all came through for him with flying colors! Rory had his surgery two weeks ago at The Animal Surgical Center and his progress to date has been nothing short of amazing. On top of that, he has turned out to be the most loving little creature! As Rory was recovering, a wonderful opportunity arose for him. There was a cozy home waiting for him, a place filled with warmth and love. But what makes this home truly special is the home's other resident, a cat named Kermit. Last year, on almost the same day, Kermit was hit by a car in Brooklyn, just like Rory, and left on the side of the road. Kermit was also brought to Animal Care Centers and then transferred to us. Because of the severity of his injury, Kermit also had to have his left rear limb amputated by the Animal Surgical Center. Kermit's owner, a kind-hearted person, knew that Kermit needed a friend -- one who understood his experiences and disability and then she read a post about Rory. It seemed like it was kismet. Kermit and his mom Jen are patiently waiting for Rory's splinted leg to heal and then Rory will go to his new home -- along his new name, Kismet -- because if this isn't kismet -- what is? Thank you all so much for making this possible. Kismet's life was saved because of you and we are forever grateful!

Our extremely successful Seniors for Seniors program now has more than 50 cats, with senior citizens benefiting from the companionship and love of having a kitty in their lives again. The cost of this program average about $3,000/month with some months going as high as $6,000. Ringo, an asthmatic, diabetic cat, goes home with Patricia through our Seniors for Seniors program. Ringo, above, was rescued from a hoarder house and soon after diagnosed with diabetes and asthma. Sponsor a Former Dad for Father's Day!This Father's Day, make a difference in a unique and meaningful way by sponsoring Blueberry, a loving (now neutered) cat. Celebrate the dads in your life by helping to support Blueberry, whose baby-making days are behind him, and ensure he gets the care and love he deserves! Some estimations are that one outdoor male cat that has not been neutered can father as many as 2,500 kittens in their lifetime! Blueberry is a charming and affectionate cat who has found his way to us. With his playful nature and gentle demeanor, Blueberry has quickly become a favorite among the staff and volunteers. Though his days of fathering kittens are over, his heart is still full of love to give.
