Welcome to the Greater Lincolnshire LEP Careers Hub Autumn newsletter.Welcome to the first edition of our Careers Hub newsletter, a round-up of careers activity in schools and colleges across Greater Lincolnshire, recognising and celebrating the contributions of over 100 local employers who are committed to inspiring our young people about the careers available in the area. The Greater Lincolnshire Careers Hub is one of a network of Careers Hubs across the country and is supporting 122 local schools and colleges, bringing them together with employers to improve how they prepare young people for their best next step, whatever or wherever that might be. The Careers Hub team here at the LEP (you might know them: Lee Douglas, Natalie Poole, Alex Nightingale, Debbie Boon, Donna Garrard, Hayley Beardsmore and Melanie Papworth), provide dedicated support to schools and colleges and facilitate partnerships with employers across Greater Lincolnshire including Rutland. We’ve provided a taste below of some of the work being done by our growing army of business volunteers, and we’re grateful to them all. If you want to get involved too, please register here www.careersandenterprise.co.uk The Greater Lincolnshire LEP is delivering the Careers Hub with funding from Lincolnshire County Council, North Lincolnshire Council, North East Lincolnshire Council, the Humber Outreach Programme (HOP) and the Careers and Enterprise Company (CEC). Our priority is " to inspire and support young people to stay and work in the area". EA Peter Evans from GF Tomlinson one of the leading construction companies in the Midlands visited the Priory Ruskin Academy, Grantham. He met Heads of Department and spoke about how employers can support the curriculum and work experience opportunities for students. EA Emma Freer, Youth Mentor at Ongo the largest housing provider in North Lincolnshire met with her new school, Melior Academy, Scunthorpe Give an Hour volunteer Robert Drury, Mortgage Specialist presents to Year 11s at his old school, Queen Elizabeth High School, Gainsborough. He spoke about his own journey in the financial sector and the skills employers are looking for. Enterprise Adviser Liam Jackson, Project Manager at Orsted a renewable energy company receives his certificate and badge presented by EC Hayley Beardmore and Careers Leader from Oasis Academy Immingham. EAs from Burmor Construct a national multi-disciplinary contactor and developer attended a Careers Event at the Spalding Academy, Spalding they spoke to students about the variety of roles in Construction and the built environment Cornerstone Employer and EA Nyle Chapman, Learning and Development Officer at Micronclean the leading UK cleanrooms solutions provider supported Boston Endeavor Academy, Boston. He met young people with Special Educational Needs and spoke about the inclusive roles available and the skills needed. Our Employer VolunteersCornerstone EmployersThe Careers Hub is supported by 12 Cornerstone Employers. Each employer is place based in Greater Lincolnshire and represent one of our priority sectors. The group is chaired by Heather Lee, Head of People at Lincolnshire Co-op Enterprise AdvisersEnterprise Advisers (EA) are professionals from any industry, including HR, who volunteer to work directly with a school or college to develop a strong careers programme and help create opportunities for young people. The Careers Hub is supported by 117 volunteers from 13 different sectors. The Gender split of our Enterprise Advisers is 49% Male and 51% Female Careers Hub Network meeting The Careers Hub fully expanded from 34 to 122 Schools and Colleges at the start of academic year 2022-2023. To recognise this expansion, we invited all members to the Lincolnshire Group Training Association Construction Event on 28th Sept at the Lincolnshire Showground. This was an opportunity to meet, collaborate, learn from best practice and hear the latest Labour Market Information about Construction and the Built Environment. All attendees were introduced to the Future Skills Questionnaire and the My Learning My Environment free resource. Our speakers included Carole Jones from the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Terry Watts, CEO at the Chartered Surveyors Training Trust (CTTS) and Justin Brown, Assistant Director for Growth at Lincolnshire County Council. All attendees were then given the opportunity to meet employers and tour the event. Attendees said; “The session was fantastic! It was great to meet employers/careers leaders and learn about key sector information. I'll travel to any meetings in Lincolnshire” “It was a really great event with very engaging speakers which really helped, I feel like I learned a lot and it was great to speak to careers leaders and learn more about them” “Great opportunity to have an overall review of what is current in Careers”

To find out how, click the link below. What are the Gatsby Benchmarks? The Eight Gatsby Benchmarks were developed on behalf of the Gatsby Foundation by Sir John Holman. They define what world class careers provision in education looks like and provide a clear framework for organising the careers provision in a school or college. The benchmarks are enshrined in statutory guidance. Looking forward to 2023Careers Hub Meeting The Careers Hub will next meet on Tuesday 7th February at the Agri-food Careers Event hosted by the Lincolnshire Showground. Schools will hear the latest Labour Market information from the sector and get the opportunity to tour the event and meet employers.
