Christchurch Wastewater Treatment Plant updateTuesday 28 April
Some odour expectedWe're expecting there may be an increase in odour over the next few days due to the upcoming weather forecast. We're currently experiencing a period of settled weather, with cool nights, warm daytime temperatures, and minimal wind. Under these conditions gases can build up near the ponds overnight and then disperse more slowly into surrounding areas during the morning. Overall, the ponds remain stable, particularly as we move through the most fragile part of the seasonal transition. Conditions continue to be monitored closely. Odour status map updateThere have been no changes to the ponds on the odour status map as they remain in a relatively stable condition. The treatment plant has shifted from red to orange.
Aerator installation progressWork continues to progress on installing more aerators across the ponds. We've removed some vegetation between Ponds 2A and 2B to improve vehicle access, which is needed to lay power cables for the new disc aerators.
Once locations for the preparatory works are fully confirmed, further landscaping will take place as required. In the background, there is ongoing coordination and planning underway, with multiple teams meeting regularly to keep the installation programme moving.
