What's On in Central Otago - February

I have spent more time in the Maniototo last month than I have in years! I am embarrassed to admit that I really hadn't paid this magical part of our countryside the attention that it deserves. Maniototo plays host to top class eateries, quirky stores, fabulous galleries and authentic bars and cafes. The landscape is truly magnificent, each little township is steeped in history and the locals do a wonderful job representing their corner of paradise. Why not spend a weekend exploring the Maniototo and go along to some of the great events happening in this region in February.
Arts on the Rail Trail 2017 is one of these. Cyclists, visitors, locals and art enthusiasts are invited to view works by Central Otago artists in venues along the Central Otago Rail Trail. Exhibitions and events will run for 12 weeks during February, March and April in venues such as cafes, bars, cycle shops and galleries from Clyde through to Middlemarch. Works by artists will be available to view and purchase.
Hayes Engineering is running a series of 'live operating days' and on the 5th of February there will be a collection of artisan markets, an exhibition, a pottery demonstration, and bluegrass music. The Maniototo and Middlemarch A&P shows, Breen's Lauder Ukulele festival, the Otago Goldfields Cavalcade, and the Otago Central Rail Trail Duathlon are all on this month.
A significant collection of works by one of New Zealand's leading figurative painters, Nigel Brown, will be opening on the 2nd of February at Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery and plenty more exhibitions, performances, festivals and creative workshops are on in Cromwell, Alexandra and Queenstown this month.
Finally a reminder - entries are now open for Rural Women New Zealand Wool -On Creative Fashion Event 2017 so spread the word and get creating. Have a great month!
