Over the past month, 10% of UK COVID cases have been of a new lineage, AY.4.2. The original and highly dominant delta variant that this lineage evolved from may now have some competition.

AY.4.2 has a mutation that might make it harder for antibodies to destroy, but it’s hard to tell yet if it has an advantage over delta. While it’s gained a foothold in the UK, in other parts of Europe AY.4.2 may have already fizzled out.

Speaking of competition, the super-billionaires Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos have started a new space race – but are they really rivals? Probably not, argues Ben Little. The super-rich actually have a lot in common and stick closely together through mutual financial, strategic and political support.

And if you install CCTV or a smart doorbell in your home, you could be fined for invading the privacy of your neighbours if you catch them on camera, a recent court case showed. Here’s how to use these devices without falling foul of the law.
