What's On in the Arts in Central Otago - November

The Cromwell Multicultural Mural Project Celebration Earlier this year the Central Otago District Arts Trust and Welcoming Communities Central Otago collaborated on a project designed to welcome cultural diversity in our community and recognise the power of sport and recreation to facilitate, encourage and embrace unity and social cohesion. We are now ready to celebrate the Cromwell Multicultural Mural Project with an official unveiling in conjunction with Bislama Language Week this Sunday November 12th, from 2- 4pm at the Alpha Street Pavilion, Cromwell. There will be a few formalities followed by some light refreshments, maybe a little music, and a game or two of football and volleyball. Everyone
is welcome to come along. Cover to Cover – Conversations with Jenny Bornholdt Our second Cover to Cover event is happening this Thursday, November 2nd at The Packing Shed, Alexandra. Jenny Bornholdt (MNZM, Arts Foundation Laureate, Katherine Mansfield Menton Fellow and award-winning poet) will talk about her latest book A Garden is a Long Time. This beautiful book was
produced in collaboration with Central Otago photographer, the late Annemarie Hope-Cross. We are really looking forward to welcoming Jenny back to Central Otago and discovering more about this publication and her other works. Eade Gallery – The Alchemist and I From Friday November the 3rd, Eade Gallery presents the opportunity to view more works by Annemarie Hope-Cross,
alongside those of award winning Alexandra photographer Eric Schusser. The Alchemist and I is a special duo solo exhibition which focuses on anthotypes showcasing Annemarie’s most recent work prior to her death from cancer in December last year. Eade Gallery has represented both Eric and Annemarie’s fine art photography for several years and Eric says their collaborative photography work evolved over time. Eric says “Anthotypes take time and care to produce, they are transitory and a bit ethereal — you never know the exact result. With Annemarie living with cancer for five and half years this approach allowed her time to experiment with an historic photographic process which was her specialty area. For us both working in this medium it became something we shared and experimented with together and I hope people appreciate the commemorative personal approach to these
images.” The exhibition will run from the 4th - 29th November. Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery - Jono and Liz Conway On Wednesday November 8th, local musicians, singer - songwriters Jono and Liz Conway will present an evening of original guitar, piano and vocal music. Liz has 17 years of private teaching experience and has worked many years in school and
university settings teaching piano, singing, guitar, band performance, music theory, songwriting and recording. She founded a teaching and recording studio in Dunedin, which was sold when her husband’s work took them overseas to Canada. She now lives in Alexandra with her husband, Jono, and their two children and enjoys teaching in local schools and from her home. Earlier this week Liz was awarded a scholarship from Alexandra Community Arts as recognition of her efforts in the arts and to enable her to continue to share her expertise within the community. This is a not to be missed concert! Do get involved in more of the wonderful
offerings in the arts in Central Otago over the coming months and keep an eye out on our What's On events calendar as we load more events happening in December and January in Central Otago.
