Christchurch Wastewater Treatment Plant updateFriday 1 May Construction ramping up on siteAs we head into a new month, it’s a good time to reflect on how construction of the activated sludge plant is progressing. Our timelapse video for April is now available, showing all the activity that has taken place. As you can see in the video, stone column installation is charging ahead, with 188 of around 1600 stone columns now installed. There’s more good news – the majority of pipes have now arrived on site and planning is underway for their installation over the coming months. In addition, the construction village is now fully set up, giving our teams everything they need to keep work moving efficiently. We also recently welcomed around 40 students from Ara Institute of Canterbury to site. The group included students from a range of construction disciplines including quantity surveying, architecture and construction management – providing a valuable opportunity to see how different skills and expertise come together on a complex civil construction project.
Aerator updateAll the aerators have now been delivered to site, and preparation work to get them installed on the oxidation ponds is continuing.
Pond health updateThere are no major updates to report regarding pond health or odour this week. The ponds remain stable, although the fragile seasonal transition period is still underway and some odour is possible. What to expect this weekendWith more fine days and cool nights forecast, conditions that can make odour more noticeable may occur from time to time, particularly overnight and in the early morning. Overall the ponds are still stable and we'll continue to monitor them closely.
