								| ARTS NEWSLETTER - Feb & Mar 2012 Gin Wigmore performing with her band at Olssens Vineyard as part of Classic Hits Winery Tour on Tuesday evening, February 21. Photo by Maxine Williams
Hi Everyone, Our thoughts and prayers have been with the people of Christchuch as they marked the first anniversary of the tragic February earthquake. For many it will be a day of reflection, remembrance and ultimately sadness. At times like this, words seem fickle, but maybe we can all learn from it by making sure we remember what is most important in life, and that is, the love we share with our family and friends. On a lighter note, I had a wonderful time on Tuesday night at Olssens Vineyard in Bannockburn, where a group of us went along to see the amazing Gin Wigmore and her band perform. The concert also featured the legendary Muttonbirds and newcomers Avalanche City. It gave me that warm fuzzy feeling watching children perched on their Dad’s shoulders, and people of all ages dancing along to the music, in one of the most stunning settings in the country. There is a great selection of events on over the next month or so. This weekend I’m heading out to the Ranfurly Art Deco Festival for a bit of country fun. As well, I’m facilitating a huge “paint by numbers” community mural. Everyone is welcome to join in and help make this massive painting come to light. The event also features crooner Vince Martin
along with a fine array of musicians, great markets, artists working out in the street and much more. In Cromwell, the arrival of the Otago Goldfields Heritage Trust – "Dusty Trails to Cromwell" Cavalcade will be a sight to see.  What a moment it will be when hundreds of horse riders, walkers and wagons descend on the town – a truly historic spectacle. The cavalcade culminates in a huge celebratory hoedown on Saturday evening with a high calibre line-up of country music acts – get along and kick up some dust! Clyde has its share of choice outings in March. There is an Extraordinary Hat Parade at Olivers or you can go to see Sam Hunt at the Memorial Hall. With such a tempting feast of events, make the most of it and check out all we have listed below. Best regards Maxine  |
