School Board Parent Nominations: Closing Date Extended
There has already been a strong response from parents interested in joining the School Board, and we are pleased to extend the nomination closing date to Friday 11 September 2026, nominations will close at 2:50 pm. The School Board currently has three parent vacancies for the 2027 to 2029 term.
We warmly encourage all prospective nominees to attend the upcoming School Board meeting on Tuesday 8 September. As an open meeting, it provides a valuable opportunity to see the Board in action, gain a better understanding of its governance role and ask any questions you may have before submitting your nomination. The Board plays an important role in helping to shape the school’s strategic direction and future success.
If you are passionate about contributing to the future of Coolbinia Primary School and supporting the best outcomes for all students, we would love to hear from you.
2027 Class Placements and Enrolment Planning
Planning for the 2027 school year is now underway. To assist us with class formation and staffing, we ask all families to please let us know if their child will not be attending Coolbinia Primary School in 2027. An acknowledgement from you would be greatly appreciated.
Families are also welcome to submit written class placement information for 2027, focusing on their child’s learning, social or wellbeing needs. Requests should be submitted in writing or by email to coolbinia.ps@education.wa.edu.au, addressed to the principal and marked Confidential. Please note that requests for specific teachers cannot be considered. While all information will be carefully reviewed, we are unable to accommodate every request.
When forming classes, we consider a range of factors, including academic, social, behavioural and gender balance, mixed ability groupings, staff recommendations, advice from our School Psychologist and any special family circumstances. Our goal is to create balanced, inclusive learning environments that support every child’s success and wellbeing. We thank you for your support and understanding.
Year 2 Assembly: Dream Big, Shine Bright!
Our Year 2 students absolutely lit up the stage with a vibrant and inspiring assembly performance. Every student spoke with confidence, poise and enthusiasm, showcasing the wonderful communication skills and self belief we work hard to nurture at Coolbinia Primary School.
The assembly was inspired by Dai Dai, the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and shared powerful messages about dreaming big and believing in yourself. Through their words and performances, students explored the following themes:
• Big Dreams: Believing that no dream is too big and having the courage to pursue your goals.
• Starting Small: Recognising that many of the world’s greatest athletes began as ordinary children who worked hard and persevered.
• Resilience: Understanding the importance of keeping going, learning from challenges and never giving up.
The entire performance reflected the values we strive to develop in our students each day: confidence, perseverance, aspiration and a belief that, with effort and determination, anything is possible.

Congratulations to Ian Wilson!
The entire Coolbinia Primary School community extends its heartfelt congratulations to Ian Wilson on being named the 2026 ACCE/ACS Australian Digital Technologies Teacher of the Year, a prestigious national award recognising excellence and innovation in Digital Technologies education across Australia.
When this exciting news was announced at our recent assembly, the response from students, parents and staff was immediate and overwhelming, with a resounding cheer echoing around the undercover area. It was a wonderful reflection of the respect, admiration and appreciation our community has for Ian, as well as the passion, creativity and expertise he brings to his teaching every day.
Ian’s commitment to inspiring students through innovative learning experiences in Digital Technologies has made a significant impact at Coolbinia Primary School and beyond. This national recognition is richly deserved, and we are incredibly proud to have such an outstanding educator as part of our school community.

Celebrating Our Amazing Education Assistants
This week, we honoured our incredible Education Assistants (EAs) and Special Needs Education Assistants (SNEAs) during Education Assistant Appreciation Week.
Our EAs and SNEAs are more than just support staff. They are mentors, cheerleaders and quiet champions of student success. Their work may sometimes go unnoticed, but the impact they have is profound and lasting. To our amazing team, thank you for your kindness, your tireless efforts and the warmth you bring to our school community. You help make Coolbinia a place where every child feels seen, supported and inspired to thrive. Thank you for all that you do!
A Wonderful One Big Voice Performance
A massive congratulations to all of our Coolbinia Primary School choir students from Years 3 to 6 who attended the One Big Voice Festival performance at RAC Arena on Friday evening, 21 August.
Throughout the year, our choir students have learned a set of eleven educational and uplifting songs, developing their skills in melody and harmony, lyrics and choreography. Coolbinia Primary School performed alongside 600 other Western Australian schools and 8,000 Western Australian school students, to an audience of more than 15,000 people.
A special thank you to Mr Welch for organising this wonderful opportunity and for guiding and supporting our students throughout their preparation and participation in this memorable performance.
Congratulations to our Coolbinia PS Choir students on a fantastic performance! We are incredibly proud of you all.
World Water Week Fun!
Coolbinia students celebrated World Water Week with a series of fun morning fitness activities. Throughout the week, students took part in water-themed challenges, including carrying buckets of water around the oval, sponge-and-bucket relay races, bucket-to-bucket water transfers, and races involving carefully carrying water overhead. The activities were a great way to combine physical activity, teamwork and plenty of fun, while also reinforcing the importance of water as a valuable resource. A big thank you to Mr Porcaro for creating such an engaging way for students to recognise and celebrate World Water Week.
Year 5 Worm Shed Incursion
Our Year 5 students had a fantastic time taking part in an engaging Worm Shed incursion.
Students learned about the fascinating life cycle of compost worms, how worms transform food waste into natural fertiliser, and simple ways to reduce food waste at school and at home.They also enjoyed hands-on activities and were excited to bring home their own compostable container of live worms to start a worm farm at home.It was a wonderful learning experience that supported our school’s sustainability program and helped students understand how small actions can make a big difference to our environment.
SERCUL Environmental Science
Last week, students from Years 1, 3, 4 and 6 took part in a series of engaging environmental science incursions presented by SERCUL.
Students explored a range of topics, including frog habitats, macroinvertebrates and minibeasts, algae and catchments, and river food webs. The sessions provided hands-on opportunities to learn more about local ecosystems, biodiversity, waterways, and the impact people can have on the environment. The incursions linked strongly with our Term 3 Biological Sciences learning and our River Rangers program, while also giving students the chance to investigate real-world environmental issues in a practical and meaningful way. It was fantastic to see the curiosity these sessions generated, with some students continuing to investigate topics and ask questions afterwards. A big thank you to SERCUL for providing such engaging and valuable learning experiences for our students.
Celebrating Father’s Day at Coolbinia Primary
Kindy Yellow and Green have had a wonderful week celebrating Father’s Day, and we loved sharing this special celebration with our families. Mr Reid even popped in to have his morning shave from the Kindy children, which prompted lots of laughs and created some very special memories!
Father’s Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate not only dads, but all the positive male role models who help shape our children’s lives, including uncles, grandads, teachers, coaches, neighbours, family friends and other important people. These men play a vital role in building resilience, confidence and character in both boys and girls.
At Coolbinia Primary, we are proud of the many engaged men in our community who show up for school events, support learning and model kindness, respect and responsibility. Their presence makes a difference and helps our children feel supported, valued and encouraged.
To all the wonderful dads, step dads, foster carers, grandads and father figures in our Coolbinia Primary School community, Happy Father’s Day! We hope you have a very special day filled with love, laughter and wonderful family memories.
Also, a big thank you to all our families who supported our Father’s Day Stall at school! We hope the children enjoyed choosing a special gift for their dads, grandads and special father figures.
Our wonderful P&C has also organised a special Father’s Day Raffle! The BIG Father’s Day Gift is proudly on display in the school office and will be going home with one lucky winner! The winner will be announced after the raffle draw, so stay tuned to find out who takes home the big prize!

What a fantastic Athletics season at Coolbinia Primary School! Congratulations to all our students who participated with enthusiasm, sportsmanship and House pride. It was wonderful to see everyone having a go, supporting one another and giving their best.

A huge thank you to our students, staff and families for making the Athletics season such a wonderful celebration of sport and community. We look forward to announcing our Overall Champion Athletes for Years 4 to 6, incorporating swimming results, at a later date. Well done, Coolbinia!
Your Move Mural Design Competition
We are looking for a creative design for a new mural on our Your Move bike track. Students from Years K–6 are invited to create their own colourful mural design, with the winning entry selected by our Year 6 Art Leaders and brought to life as a real mural at our school! Students who are keen to participate can collect the entree form from their class teacher. Completed entries are due back to Mrs Jamieson in ELC2 by Friday morning 11 September. We can’t wait to see your creative ideas!

The Young Engineers After School Club is back for Term 4 and provides students with the opportunity to explore engineering and STEM concepts through fun, hands on activities. Students will build exciting models, develop problem solving skills and discover how things work, all while having fun with friends. New students are always welcome, and places are still available!

ABODA (WA) Junior Orchestra Festival
Our String Ensemble is excited to represent Coolbinia Primary School at the ABODA (WA) Junior Orchestra Festival on Sunday 13 September at Churchlands SHS Auditorium.
Arrival: 8:45 am
Performance: 9:45 am
Holding Room: B3
Please note that the performance is in the Auditorium, not the Concert Hall.
Dress: CPS Music polo, black dress bottoms or skirt, black socks or stockings and black dress shoes. No sneakers, track pants, leggings as pants or navy bottoms. Students should also keep jewellery and makeup to a minimum and have their hair off their faces.
Family and friends are welcome to attend. Tickets are available on the day for $8 adults and $6 concession. We wish our wonderful String Ensemble the very best and look forward to seeing them showcase their fantastic progress!
