Farewell to Trish Wescombe Trish has decided to retire after a remarkable career at Flinders University spanning back to April 2003. Trish has played vital roles, including managing the Bachelor of Arts Office (2003-2014) and contributing significantly to the College of BGL since its inception in 2018. Known for her dedication, she has been a key figure in the College Education Committee, Operations team, and has provided invaluable support for the Dean (Education) portfolio. We would like to thank her for her dedication to Flinders and our team, for consistently maintaining such a high standard of work, and for regularly going above and beyond her duties. (ABDC: A* ranked) What's been going on in BGL Academy of International Business OCEANIA Annual Symposium On the 23rd of November, Centre for Social Impact (CSI) Professor Svetlana Bogomolova conducted a highly successful Masterclass titled "Co-design Method in Business Research: Strengths, Limitations, and Unique Insights" as part of the Academy of International Business OCEANIA Annual Symposium. Due to its positive reception, an extended version with hands-on training for CBGL colleagues is in the works for early next year. The Masterclass explores co-creation and co-design research methods, emphasising their benefits, suitability, and key stages. Real-world examples will illustrate these concepts, and the importance of adaptability and inclusivity in working with diverse stakeholders will be addressed. 2023 Conference-Leadership in Action | New Zealand Dean of Business, Professor Angie Abdel Shafei showcased two presentations at the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA) 2023 Conference-Leadership in Action in Auckland. The first presentation focused on 'Process Mining and Customer Journey Mapping in Stroke Rehabilitation: Digitally Enhancing Patient-Centred Care.' The second presentation addressed 'Getting Digital Health Applications into General Practice: A protocol for m-health regulation, awareness and adoption.' Our recent AI in Education Conference presented by Bert Verhoeven and Dr. Vishal Rana held on 28th of October, was a resounding success, bringing together educators, researchers, and innovators at Victoria Square. Attendees engaged in thought-provoking discussions, attended inspiring keynote speeches, and participated in interactive workshops. Experts shared insights on how AI can enhance personalised learning and improve student outcomes, shaping the future of education. In a recent article featured on The Conversation, our colleague Professor Caitlin Hughes sheds light on the intricacies of drug detection dog practices and the imperative need for reform. The Government group emerged triumphant at the recent Austral Pub Quiz, showcasing not only their camaraderie but also the depth of their political knowledge. Their impressive victory, earning them a well-deserved $100 prize, underscores not only their intellectual prowess but also their ability to come together as a team for a fun and rewarding experience! CSI/Dean (Research) Writing Retreat Pilot Our CSI team report a very high uptake for their December 2023 writing retreat, with 20 researchers signed up to spend three days off campus. The upcoming retreat is a pilot of a research centre/institute focused retreat. It has explicit objectives around increasing publication outputs, increasing collaboration and co-authorship, and strengthening centre affiliation. This pilot is being co-funded and supported by the Dean (Research) and CSI. For more information contact CSI Manager, David Cannon: david.cannon@flinders.edu.au Graduate Certificate in Social Impact - Co-sponsored Scholarships CSI and CBGL have successfully developed an exciting scholarship opportunity for 2024 with their State Government and not-for-profit partners. The scheme sees partner organisations nominate 5 staff members each - chosen for professional development and/or strategic capacity building purposes - who will undertake the Graduate Certificate in Social Impact in 2024. Partners will provide a partial scholarship to staff, and this will be matched by a partial fee offset, with the remainder of fees to be covered by the student or partner, as determined by the partner. The first of these scholarship agreements will be finalised shortly, with more anticipated to follow The first title is now available in a new book series ‘Palgrave Critical Studies in Human Rights and Criminology’, edited by Professor Leanne Weber and Professor Marinella Marmo: ‘Children in Conflict with the Law: Rights, Research and Progressive Youth Justice’, co-authored by Ursula Kilkelly, Louise Forde, Sharon Lambert and Katharina Swirak. The next publication in the series will be an agenda-setting collection titled ‘A Research Agenda for a Human Rights Centred Criminology’, co-edited by Leanne Weber and Marinella Marmo. What's on 📅 The College SAS and Operations teams are decorating our front reception area Along with that, to do something for people in a time where it’s tough on everyone, we have decided to have a Giving Tree at the College front reception area. A big part of our mission statement is covered with this initiative. The charity we have chosen are Puddle Jumpers and their current Christmas “wish list”. You can also check their website out at Puddle Jumpers – Supporting underprivileged and at-risk children in South Australia. We will collect gifts until 3pm on Friday 15th December and arrange for them to be delivered/picked up ready to spread the Christmas cheer to those in need.
