Law School Bulletin May 2026

Welcome to the May edition of our newsletter.

We hope you have had a fantastic year and are now finding time to enjoy a well-deserved rest following your busy exam period. We are now coming to the end of term and as exams and assessments draw to a close, a period of waiting begins. So, in this edition we have information and advice about Results Day as well as details of the support available in the Law School and the University. You can also read about the Prizes the Law School awards each academic year.

We also hope you are getting ready for the summer and that you will take some proper time off. Even if you are planning to work as interns, on work placements or in paid employment, or if it turns out that you will have to complete referred or deferred assessments, make sure you have some holiday time. Summer is always an important time to pause and reflect on the past academic year and celebrate everything you have achieved. It is also the season to relax and recharge so make time for the things that bring you joy and happiness!

Over the summer, the academic and professional services teams are still available to support you. Please note however that this is also the time in the year where colleagues take annual leave and participate in research intensive activities. If you contact them, there may thus be a delay in their response. The University's Wellbeing Service remains available as usual.

We wish you all a happy, sunny, and restful summer, and I very much look forward to welcoming you back to the Law School in September.

Best wishes,
Caroline

We have come to the end of the academic year and most of you will have completed your Term 3 assessments by now.

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be preparing for the exam board where we process not only the Term 3 results, but also the provisional results issued earlier in the year. These final results will be released on Tuesday 16 June (remember that Exam feedback will be via Exams ELE, not regular ELE).

The University is here to support you during this time, so do please reach out to the Law School's Pastoral Mentors, who can provide initial signposting, short-term support and onward referral to specialist support. The Wellbeing team has a host of resources on their webpage too.

Subject-based staff have been asked to prioritise support for students who have assessments over the July/August summer period - those who deferred their assessment for medical or other reasons, and those who are referred in modules that are not yet passed. Your module convenors should be in touch shortly after results release with a module-based support session to be delivered online for those who still have assessments to complete. Information about the dates of the July/August exams are here.

For those who have passed all modules, please collate your feedback across all of your modules, to discuss with your academic tutor in the new academic year as part of your first meeting with them. We hope you have a wonderful summer, whatever you are doing, and we look forward to seeing you again in the new academic year.

For those of you who will be going abroad on placement next year, good luck: an adventure awaits!

Best wishes,
David

📣Your Voice Matters 📣

Thank you all for your feedback across the last academic year. You should receive an email this week, from accelerate@exeter.ac.uk, with a link to a survey for you to provide feedback on your experience of your modules. It’s an opportunity to constructively share your thoughts on where you think things could be better and what is going well too.

What we do with your feedback

Previous feedback means we have been able to:

  • Refine our module fair
  • Produce infographics guiding you to sources of support
  • Taken steps to make the personal tutoring sessions more reflective through the use of worksheets.

Once you’ve completed this latest feedback we will set to work digesting this information. Thanks to all who have fed back this year.

In addition the Students' Guild has been able to run focus groups for the Law School on three topics: feedback format, attendance, and communication.

NSS Survey

In July, we will receive the National Student Survey (NSS) results from our final year students. Each year we use the NSS feedback to better understand what we have done well and where we can continue to improve. For example, we produced videos to help explain our marking criteria.
This year, we have had a very strong NSS return: 71.3% of students completed it, which is approximately 10% more than last year. Thank you for taking the time to complete the NSS.

Remember you can share your feedback at any time with your Academic Tutor or Law Student Rep. As Undergraduate Co-Directors, Matthew Channon and Amy Man also welcome feedback directly to them. You can find your Reps on the Students' Guild webpages.

Additional text reads, “If you need to talk, our Pastoral Mentors, are just an email away: law-pastoral@exeter.ac.uk.” The University of Exeter Law School logo appears at the bottom

Hello from your Pastoral Mentors!

Congratulations on getting to the end of the academic year. For some of you, it’s goodbye as you await Graduation; we are looking forward to being there to cheer you on😊. For others, it’s another year completed, so well done!

If you have work to complete over the summer, please rest assured that we are available to support you. It can help just to chat, so if you're not sure who to talk to, get in touch and we will see what we can do.

We'll be primarily working on Teams throughout the summer. You may want to talk to someone about the next academic year, any worries you may have, or you may need help with time management. Whatever it is, pop us an email and we'll do our best to help.

Please also remember that we can help talk you through an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) application. These will need to be done as quickly as possible, so get in touch if you aren't sure if you're eligible or if you need support applying.
