Has this week been a bit of a struggle? Colder weather, shorter daylight hours and the knowledge of dark months ahead make this a difficult time of year for some.
We’ve learnt that one in three people suffer from seasonal affective disorder – or SAD. This is a particular type of depression that sets in during the winter and can leave you feeling down, lacking in energy and apathetic. In one of our most popular articles from the past few days, a psychologist explains what this condition is and how anyone feeling a November slump can take steps to cope.
Now that the COP26 summit has wrapped up, thoughts turn even more to how we can make meaningful changes to reach climate targets. A radical experiment in one London borough has explored how rewarding people with prizes can encourage them to walk or cycle instead of getting in the car. All of Hounslow was turned into a game, with participants able to collect points by tapping a card on machines as they moved around the area. 28,219 locals took part and the results were pretty inspiring. And in yet more good news for the energy conscious, electric cars could one day be used to power your home.
For the final episode of our Climate Fight podcast series, we take you inside the COP negotiations in Glasgow, where we found that bringing together hundreds of countries to thrash out detailed and challenging environmental commitments was both a science and an art.
Also this week, living with wolves, a researcher exposes ties between British public schools and Nazi Germany and a look at how 1990s political sleaze has shaped Boris Johnson’s current crisis.
