The theme for the Aboriginal Health Conference 2023 is: Dedication: the Story of our Elders. The conference will bring together health professionals from across rural WA, and provide the opportunity to learn from those who came before us. We will hear their stories and reflect on how we can move through the challenges faced by so many, and find a way forward together.

We are now calling for abstracts for oral presentations and e-posters under the following streams: 

Social and emotional wellbeing
Sexual health
Culturally competent care 
Caring for Elders
Health across the life course

Abstract submission deadline is Monday 07 August 2023.

The Conference title for 2023 is Looking Beyond I People, Resilience and Innovation.

We are now calling for abstracts for oral presentations and poster presentations under the following streams:

  • Aboriginal mental health: Social and emotional wellbeing

  • Boots on the ground: Innovative workforce solutions for rural and remote Mental Health

  • Collaborative approaches in rural and remote Mental Health Care

  • Moving forward: Technology, research and innovation

  • Nothing about us without us: Diversity and inclusion

While these streams are provided for guidance, abstracts may be applicable across multiple streams and all innovative projects, programs, research and initiatives are encouraged to submit. Please note, successful abstracts will be allocated a 20 minute timeslot in the conference program.

 

Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) Practitioner Workshop 
11 August 2023
 | Fiona Stanley Hospital, Perth

Facilitated by the VAD Coordinator for SMHS, John Robinson and supported the SWCNS, Care Navigator, Kim.

Prior to attending the Voluntary Assisted Dying Participating Practitioner Workshop, it is vitally important to commence access to the DOH mandatory training package. You’re encouraged to have completed the first three modules prior to the workshop. The Department of Health End-of-Life Care Program team can also provide support with accessing the DOH Mandatory training package 

 VADApprovedTraining@health.wa.gov.au.

Any regional practitioners that would like to attend can request Regional Access Support Scheme funding though our service.

WACRH Student-Led Physiotherapy Clinic
Appointments are available in our student-led physiotherapy clinic at the WA Centre for Rural Health (WACRH) in Geraldton.
People attending the clinic are seen by Physiotherapy students supervised by qualified Physiotherapists.
No doctor referral needed and anyone is eligible to attend. It is particularly suited to those who have difficulty accessing other physiotherapy services. There is no cost.

WACRH Student -Led Speech Pathology Clinic - Adults with communication difficulties

Those attending our clinic will be seen by final year speech pathology students, supervised by
Certified Practicing Speech Pathologists.
We can offer assessment and treatment for a range of communication difficulties including:
• Unclear speech and difficulty with speech sounds
• Producing a clear voice (eg hoarse, too quiet, strained)
• Understanding what others say
• Finding words or putting sentences together
• Stuttering
Who can attend:
Anyone can refer to this clinic and no referral is required. This student service is available to
those who are not able to access other speech pathology services or programs. There is no
cost.

Community Yoga Classes
Wednesday 5:30 pm and Saturday 08:00 am

FREE community yoga sessions are available in Geraldton! These sessions are suitable for all ages and skill levels, so whether you're a seasoned yogi or a complete beginner, you're welcome to join in. All you need to bring is a yoga mat or towel and a water bottle. 

Take some time for yourself and connect with your community in a peaceful and uplifting environment. Kids are welcome

Meeka Outback Festival | 22 SEPTEMBER - 25 SEPTEMBER 2023 

The Meekatharra Outback Festival is an annual event held in the town of Meekatharra. The annual event is held over the Queen's Birthday long weekend each year. The weekend consists of Races, Outback Ball, and a Side Show complete with rides, food vans and much more.

Users can easily search for the services they require by region, health professional, service provider, host facility, and visit date. This allows for convenient and efficient access to the outreach services needed in rural areas.
