Unmissable Classics

THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA
Saturday 2nd Sept - 10am

Miranda Priestly’s (Meryl Streep) glossy fashion mag editor is sadistic, inconsiderate and manipulative to her intern Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway). You’ll enjoy Andy turning from an ugly duckling into a swan, but the vicarious pleasure really comes from the lovingly photographed shoes, outfits and accessories.

PS. Show off YOUR passion for shoes and walk the red carpet while sipping on a glass of something, then be amazed at Jenny Gardner’s collection of hand-crafted “Chess Set” themed shoes!

THE ADVENTURES OF BARRY MCKENZIE
Sunday 3rd Sept - 4:30pm

This is more than just about a drunken Australian virgin, mouthing Australianisms and sticking it up the Poms. Its rule-breaking raw humour put Australia on the international filmmaking map. Rawer than an outback prawn, cooler than a bathtub of Fosters and louder than a chunder into the Pacific, Barry McKenzie is still outrageously funny.

Closing night FREE DuCane beer provided!

You be the Judge

Our 2023 'Inspiring Change' Short Film Competition judges are hard at work right now selecting their shortlist. And what a tough task that is. Entries range from stories of digital addiction, gender identity, climate action, families, and refugees, to radicalisation, disability, trauma, First Nation people and more. All beautifully filmed and scripted.

The short-listed entries will be live on our website from Tuesday 1st to Thursday 31st August, and during this time it's YOUR turn to be the judge. Head to the BOFA on the SOFA page on our website, to watch all shortlists for FREE, and vote for the People's Choice Awards. To access the films you'll need to enter the code: CHOICE

The Judge's selection of their top three shorts and the People’s Choice top three will be announced at the Short Film Awards event at 12.30 Sunday 3rd September at QVMAG, Inveresk. This is a FREE event.

It takes a city

They say it takes a village to raise a child. Well, it takes a city to sustain a festival like BOFA Film Festival. The Government are great supporters – City of Launceston, Events Tasmania – but there are many unsung heroes who support this festival and keep it going year after year. Here are some.

Intend Financial
The Intend Financial team offer help so people and organisations can achieve everything they want in life – because they know that life is bigger than finance. Thanks for helping us, guys!

Mighty Nice
As an award-winning animation studio, with offices in Sydney, London, Los Angeles and Launceston, Mighty Nice are passionate about craft-based storytelling for clients such as Apple, Google and Disney+. Mighty nice to have your support!

Du Cane
Keeping us supplied with fine beers are Ducane Brewery, Launnie’s first brewpub. In the true spirit of our closing night Classic film, The Adventures of Barry McKenzie, our Closing Night Party is offering free beer while it lasts – not Fosters but even better, Ducane beer.  Cheers!

808
Who better to have as a partner than 808, who provide independent advice and integration services with all things audio-visual? They quietly make us look good, every time. Thank you.
