Welcome to the April newsletter

Brett sitting down outside the main entrance

Dear

We are sure that many from our alumni community will have met or spoken with our Alumni Officer Brett Arnall during his time at Leeds Trinity.

We are sorry to share that Brett is leaving the University at the end of April after over 10 years leading the institution's alumni engagement activity. He has developed the alumni community; strengthened relationships; facilitated alumni to support current students via placements, guest lectures and mentoring; and been a friendly face at many alumni events and reunions over the years.

Brett will be very much missed by both colleagues and alumni, and we wanted to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt 'thank you' to Brett for all he has acheived here at Leeds Trinity, and wish him well for his next chapter.

Brett wanted to share a message to the alumni community on the Alumni Facebook page. Read it here.

Meeting Brightsparks alumni

Alumni who work at Brightsparks. (l-r) Victoria, Katie, Megan

Recently Alumni Officer Brett Arnall visited Brightsparks offices in York, a company focused on social value, doing good and making a difference.

He caught up with three alumni who are currently working there, who liken the company values and community spirit to those of Leeds Trinity.

(l-r) Victoria Smith (MA Childhood and Education, 2022), Katie Simpson (English and Media, 2001) and Megan West (Media and Marketing, 2015)

Brightsparks started as a Community Interest Company (CIC) in 2016, set up in response to gaps in the market in supporting children, parents and professionals working with these individuals and groups.

Its sister company, Brightsparks Agency, was formed shortly after. Brightsparks Agency is a full service agency specialising in behaviour change for social good, exclusively working with social purpose organisations. Read more.

Featured alumni – Viktor Mitruk

Viktor Mitruk graduated from Media in 2018. Viktor is from Slovakia and chose Leeds Trinity because of its strong community vibe. He is currently the Community and Partnership Lead for First Line Software.

Viktor left Leeds Trinity with so many new skills. He says: "On the technical side, I learned how to edit videos, movies, and radio content, which I’m very grateful for. On the soft skills side, University taught me how to collaborate in a team, express myself confidently, and use critical thinking in research. These are essential skills in today’s world, and I carry them with me every day."

Viktor returened to Slovakia after his studies. He told us: "After University I moved back to my hometown in Slovakia. It’s funny because most people go the opposite way, leaving Slovakia to build a career in the UK. I did things differently." Read Viktor's alumni profile
