Welcome back! We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break and are rested and ready to take on the final few weeks of the semester. As the semester comes to a close, we know you are thinking about potential spring internships. Be sure to check out the opportunities available below and apply before the end of the semester.

Dr. Sara LaBell and Dr. Jennifer Waldeck published a book

The book, currently in production and set to drop in January, is called "Strategic Communication for Organizations." This book, appropriate for both students and practitioners, emphasizes how theory and research from the field of communication studies can be used to support and advance organizations of all types across a variety of business sectors.

Chapman Represents at the NCA Convention

Last month, many of our professors and students traveled to Baltimore, MD to attend the annual National Communication Association convention.

Dr. Jennifer Bevan and Tessa Urbanovich '15 (M.S. '19) presented a paper at NCA, entitled Expanding the Scope of the Family Caregiver Communication Typology: Relationships with Caregiver Quality of Life. This study examines whether the 4-category Family Caregiver Communication Typology can be expanded for usage beyond the cancer context (i.e., with a general caregiving population).

Kalya Slack ’21 and Dylan Wen ’21 shared their research done with Lisa Matusi ’21. Their paper “The influence of backdrop color on speaker credibility" was done with their faculty advisor Dr. Austin Lee.

Several of our Ph.D. and graduate students were on hand to help Dr. Keith Weber and Amy Rogeness promote our graduate programs.

Dr. Jennifer Waldeck and Michael Ross did a short course entitled "Public Speaking for Survival in 2019 and Beyond: Emphasizing Communicator Diversity and Free Expression in the Basic Course."

Nicolette Evans ’19 and Allie Ricci Fisher ’19 presented their paper “The impact of inclusive advertising: The effects on mood, body satisfaction, sense of representation, and purchase intention.” Their paper was also done with Dr. Austin Lee and received the Top Paper Award for Student Section.

One of our newest faculty members, Dr. Megan Vendemia, received a Top 5 Paper Award for her research at NCA.

ANA Educational Foundation’s MADE Internship
MADE is an internship program for undergraduate students interested in the marketing and advertising industry. Successful applicants will be placed in one of over 50 marketing/advertising/media companies. The application deadline is January 10.

Hoag Classic Brand Ambassador
The brand ambassadors will assist in the promotion of the Hoag Classic at locations across Orange County, including public golf courses, large events, high traffic areas, etc. The brand ambassadors will be the face of the tournament and tasked with engaging community members to build excitement during the months/weeks leading up to the event.
