Welcome to the August Future Fibres Network+ newsletter!  We are very much looking forward to seeing you at our second event coming up on 3 September at the University of Huddersfield (details below).

The second of our new webinar series Fibre Talks took place in July. See the News section for how to access the video for this.   We have just launched on Instagram so you can follow us for the latest updates.

Professor Richard Thompson presented the second Fibre Talks Webinar on 17 June entitled "Environment".   A recording of this will is available on the website, with a downloadable summary of the discussion available soon.

Future Fibres features in WTiN

Recently Professor Tamara Galloway was interviewed for WTiN (World Textile Information Network).  The network covers all aspects of the global textile industry, providing information and analysis on all aspects of textile value chain.

Dr Ishrat Jahan Badruddin has joined the Future Fibres team at the University of Leeds.  She will be working with Professor Richard Blackburn and Professor Paul Kay.

We would also like to welcome Dr Xinyi Guan to the Future Fibres team at the University of Huddersfield.  She will be working with Professor Parik Goswami and Dr Athanasios Angelis-Dimakis.

 

 
 

Future Fibres Network+ Sandpit  Meeting in Huddersfield

Final preparations are taking place for our Sandpit event in Huddersfield. The programme will feature insightful discussions and presentations from leading industry players such as British Wool, AW Hainsworth & Sons, Cork Sol UK and Camira Fabrics.  These sessions will focus on specific issues and challenges faced by industry and offer the chance to collaborate on finding effective solutions. Interactive workshops will provide a platform for participants to contribute their ideas and expertise. For more information click here. 

Sustainable Fashion and Textiles Forum

Tickets are still available for the Sustainable Fashion and Textiles Forum, Tuesday 10 September in Truro. The Keynote address will be given by Jenny Valarino, Head of Circular Design at Circular Textiles Foundation.  As well as discussions from academics at Exeter and Falmouth Universities, there will be the chance to hear from businesses like Colour Earth, Circular Flow and WRAP and the British School Fashion.   Tickets are available here. 

Future Observatory: Tomorrow’s Wardrobe

14 SEPTEMBER 2024 – AUGUST 2025

Discover the urgent research and innovation taking place to design a future for fashion that is both stylish and sustainable. Tomorrow's Wardrobe brings together a diversity of designers from across the fashion industry who are revolutionising the way we create, make, and wear clothes – including exhibits from friends of Future Fibres – Project Plan B and Dr Laetitia Forst.  Prof Kate Goldsworthy supported the exhibition as curatorial advisor alongside Jalaj Hora (Nike) and Susan Postlethwaite (Manchester Metropolitan University). New papers published by UAL

Dr Mahbub Hassan who works on the project in Professor Kate Goldsworthy's team at the University of the Arts London has recently had his paper entitled Marine Biodegradation Behavior of Wool and Other Textile Fibers published in Water, Air & Soil Pollution Journal.  Read the paper here.
