Watch: Quarterly drone flyover

As we enter the summer season, BESIX Watpac's Adrian Jones talks you though the latest happenings from the site.

In the next few months, the scale of the structure will start to emerge as the west stand reaches to its final height - four floors tall.

The video also shows the preassembly area where the team are putting together the radial, or perimeter, steel columns. The first two of these columns are currently being erected at the southern end of the site. You can expect to see these emerge over the next month.

Faces of Te Kaha: Karl Bogren

Position: Plumber, from DBC Building Services

Day to day I… work with a team of around 10 plumbers on all things plumbing, from under slab drainage to water services. There are going be close to 400 toilets in Te Kaha, so it's a big job.

The best part of my job: I'm born and bred Christchurch and a big sports follower, so being involved in building the new stadium is pretty great.

Warriors sign three year deal to play in Christchurch

A deal announced on Friday 10 November will see the One New Zealand Warriors taking an NRL home game to Christchurch for each of the next three seasons.

On the back of their landmark 2023 campaign, the Warriors have joined forces with Venues Ōtautahi and ChristchurchNZ to play NRL home games in the country’s second biggest city for the first time.

The Warriors have also confirmed they will play a Preseason Challenge match in Christchurch in February, having also done so this year when they faced Melbourne.

Under the partnership the 2024 and 2025 fixtures will be played at Apollo Projects Stadium before taking the 2026 game to Te Kaha.

What to expect over the coming months

The next six months of the Te Kaha project will see work continue on the superstructure bowl, and work begin on the first elements for the roof.

Because of the huge size of the project, the different stages will overlap to streamline the process. That means as one phase of work progresses across the site (working from south to north), the next phase will follow closely behind it.

Q4 2023 – Throughout the last few weeks of the year, contractors will continue installing steel columns and seating tiers in the western, southern, and eastern stands. Superstructure work on the arena bowl will also continue. Contractors will begin pre-assembly of the roof structure in early December, with the first column trusses being erected in the coming months.

Q1 2024 - Concrete formwork will continue on Level 2 of the western stand. Radial roof column trusses will continue to be installed in preparation for the superstructure roof work to begin.
