Financial education in schools

Successful funding applicants announced soon

Moneysmart, together with primary and secondary principal associations (APPA and ASPA) are close to finalising all applications for the financial literacy project opportunities. Successful applicants will be announced on our Moneysmart in schools webpage shortly, so stay tuned.

Secondary teachers take part in a Q&A

In October this year, ASIC partnered with Western Sydney University (WSU) School of Business, to run a NESA (NSW) accredited professional learning workshop for secondary school teachers.

Some ASIC/ASPA financial literacy funding recipients from NSW participated in a Q&A panel to share their approaches to embedding financial literacy education in their schools. The Q&A session is on YouTube (starts at 33:00 and ends 1:25:00 in the timeline).

ASIC and ASPA look forward to continuing the funding initiative into next year.

In the meantime, choose from our free and accredited professional development courses that support you to connect learning to life and build your confidence to teach financial literacy.

Moneysmart Christmas Tip 1

There's still time to bag some extra cash to boost your festive finances. Spend a few hours this weekend clearing out anything you no longer need around the house. Then sell these items online or through your local buy-swap-sell.

Moneysmart Christmas Tip 2

Make lists of the things you need to buy and the food you need to prepare for the festive season. Having lists will help you plan your spending and keep you on track.

Moneysmart Christmas Tip 3

There’s a lot of pressure to spend up big at this time of year, but pricey presents or celebrations aren’t necessarily the way to go. Chat to your family and friends about how you will celebrate this year, then set a budget with your loved ones.

Moneysmart Christmas Tip 4

Look for ways to save when shopping online - Search for discount or coupon codes you can use, look in the sales sections of websites and, if you know what items you are looking for, search for them online instead of just going to one retailer's website

Moneysmart Christmas Tip 5

If you’re planning to shop in-store this festive season, reduce your stress and limit the temptation to overspend by setting a time limit on your shopping, going early or late in the day to avoid the crowds, having a shopping list and only shopping where you need so you don’t get distracted and impulse buy.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
