Welcome to the January newsletter

Dear

A very Happy New Year to all members of our alumni community.

We were delighted to start 2025 in style with our City Campus being formally opened by the Bishop of Leeds, the Rt Rev Marcus Stock. A Blessing service was held to mark the occasion on Wednesday 15 January, followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The City Campus opened its doors for teaching in October 2024, with programmes now being delivered in the schools of Business; Construction and the Built Environment; Computer Science; Criminology, Investigation and Policing; and Law.

Its specialist facilities include a board room, law court, custody suite and labs to enhance learning opportunities and familiarise students with the environments and equipment they will regularly experience once they have graduated. Read more.

We wish all of our members every success this year and look forward to your continued support.

On Wednesday 5 March, at our Horsforth campus, we are proud to be hosting the twentieth Writers’ Festival. It will draw together students, staff, alumni and members of the public to participate in workshops provided by eight different writers on topics of their choice.

Taking place from 10:00am-5:30pm, each writer will run their two-hour workshop twice: once in the morning and once in the afternoon. This event is free for alumni, students and staff. Book your place.

Employer and Apprentice Information Event

On Monday 10 February from 9:00am-1:30pm we will be hosting an Employer and Apprentice Information Event at our City Campus.

We will be celebrating our valued partnerships and showcasing the opportunities available to employers through our academic and professional offerings.

Attendees will be able to find out about the diverse range of degree apprenticeships available, take part in an Interactive Taster Session and go on a campus tour. Find out more and book your place.

Mind the Gap

On Wednesday 22 January 'Mind the Gap’, the latest film by Associate Professor Ricardo Barker, was shown at Leeds Playhouse, as part of our Social Justice Lecture Series.

Mind The Gap is a sharp, reflective film that explores the often-overlooked issue of unconscious bias within higher education.

You can register your interest for the official launch of the film taking place on Wednesday 14 May at our City Campus. Book your place.

Featured alumni – Ben Cropper

We always love welcoming alumnus Ben Cropper back to campus. He is a regular visitor when we host Journalism and Media Week and we last caught up with him in November 2024. He told us: "I’m glad to see Journalism and Media Week is still in full swing. It’s something I look out for every year as part of my continuous professional development."

Ben studied Sports Journalism and graduated in 2012. He is now a Freelance Sports Reporter.

Ben has worked hard to follow his passion: "My ability to turn what was previously a passion project, into the beginning of a freelance profession, has proved transformative".

Ben also has advice for the next generation of budding sports journalists: "If you are looking at applying for a Sports Journalism course, I would strongly urge you to make Leeds Trinity one of your primary choices. The academic staff takes time to get to know you as an individual and offers timely and all-encompassing advice."
