From the MayorThis year’s Sculpture Trail is now open at the Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden. The Sculpture Trail showcases 46 diverse sculptures created by professional and emerging artists and constructed from recycled materials. Congratulations to all of the artists selected in this year’s event! Check it out and vote for your favourite sculpture.
Last week I had the pleasure of doing a delivery run with The Village Chef volunteers. Formerly Meals on Wheels, The Village Chef provides delicious and nutritious meals and is an important point of social connection and community. Thank you to all their amazing volunteers for your wonderful contribution. We’re hosting a special outing for people with dementia and their families on 17 September to mark Dementia Action Week. The ‘Brushstrokes and Bushwalks’ event at Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden includes a Devonshire tea, an easy walk around the Sculpture Trail, a light lunch
and an optional art activity. A year after Ku-ring-gai was recognised as a Dementia Friendly Community, Council is continuing to support people with dementia and remove barriers to access and inclusion. Just a reminder that the Thomas Carlyle family fun day is on Saturday 13 September. A fun day out where you can learn more about the Council’s long day care centre at East Lindfield. Have a wonderful weekend! Mayor Christine Kay
And the winners are...A giant banksia made from an air tank, a flock of birds constructed from building materials and irrigation tubing, plus an assortment of discarded flip flops transformed into colourful fish have taken the top prizes in this year’s Sculpture Trail.
