Dear Parents and Carers,
I am writing this on Wednesday, as I will be out of school on Thursday and Friday attending professional learning. I am disappointed to be missing this year’s Junior Swimming Carnival. I know it will be a fantastic day filled with encouragement, laughter and team spirit, and I wish all of our students the very best of luck.
A huge thank you in advance to: Our Year 6 students, who will once again step up as leaders and helpers throughout the day, our teachers and education assistants for their organisation and supervision, our P&C volunteers and particularly our Phys Ed teacher, Ashley Clancy.
We are excited to welcome parents and spectators to cheer on our swimmers.
Thank you to our P&C volunteers for once again stepping in to run the food stall. Our school is incredibly fortunate to have a group of parents who continue to turn up each year to support our students.
Year 6 students will assist with the set up, selling and pack up of the food stall. This support will significantly reduce the number of parent volunteers required and also provides our senior students with a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate leadership.
When not assisting at the stall, Year 6 students will be supporting the carnival through water safety, games and general assistance.
Thank you again to everyone involved.
P&C and Community Appreciation
Last Tuesday evening, we held the P&C AGM. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our hardworking P&C. Our P&C Executive are parents who balance careers and family life yet continue to give generously of their time to support our school and improve opportunities for Subiaco students.
Your voluntary contributions and support of fundraising initiatives make a tangible difference. Many of the enhancements and opportunities we are able to provide simply would not be possible without this partnership.
Subiaco itself continues to grow and evolve. With significant investment in infrastructure including the redevelopment of the City of Subiaco Civic Administration Building and council chambers and continued residential development across the suburb, our community is expanding. Population growth brings vibrancy, diversity and opportunity, but it also increases demand on local schools and shared facilities.
In this context, the strength of our community matters more than ever.
A strong school is built through partnership between families, educators and the wider community. Your engagement, your attendance at events, your contributions and your advocacy all help ensure Subiaco Primary remains a school we are proud of.
Before-School Routine – Thank You
I would also like to sincerely thank our community for your understanding and support as we worked through adjustments to our before-school routines.
Change is never seamless, and I truly appreciate the patience shown as we adjusted, reconsidered, listened carefully to feedback, and made adaptations where needed.

Supporting Our Children Through a Busy Term
As we move through the second half of the term, it is very normal for children to feel tired or emotionally stretched. The combination of swimming lessons, NAPLAN, carnivals, assessments and routine changes can impact energy levels.
The Western Australian Department of Education highlights that towards the end of term, children may:
-
Become more easily frustrated
-
Show heightened emotions
-
Feel physically tired
-
Need additional reassurance
This is completely developmentally typical.
You can support your child by:
-
Maintaining consistent sleep routines
-
Allowing quiet downtime after school
-
Keeping communication calm and predictable
-
Offering reassurance and encouragement
At school, we will continue to prioritise wellbeing alongside learning. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you notice anything concerning.
Warm regards
Heather McNeil

Thank you for a wonderful 2026 Welcome Picnic
A big thank you to everyone who joined us on Sunday 22 February. Despite a busy day of events around Subiaco, we had a fantastic turnout and raised $750 for our Year 6 cohort. It was lovely to reconnect with familiar faces and welcome new families to our school community. The sausage sizzle, ice-creams and open pool made for a relaxed afternoon on the oval — exactly what community events are all about.
Thank you for your support and for helping us kick off the 2026 P&C calendar. A quick reminder that when the pool is open at events, children must be actively supervised by parents and carers, as safety is our priority.
Pool Season comes to an end ☀️💦
Sunday 8 March is the final day of our pool season, and the weather is set to be perfect for one last splash! Grab the kids, bring some friends, and come down to enjoy a relaxed afternoon by the pool. Thanks to our awesome Pool Committee and all the families who supported the season by buying passes. Let’s make the most of the sunshine, cool off in the water, and give the season a fun send-off together!
Junior Carnival Food Stall Fun
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and donated delicious goodies for the Junior Swim Carnival Food Stall today. The kids look forward to this event every year and today was no exception — their excitement was contagious! Nothing lasted long and
Your generosity, energy, and willingness to pitch in make days like this possible. Whether you baked, bought, chopped, served, set up, packed down, or cheered from the sidelines, we are so grateful for the way you support our school community.
Get involved with the P&C in 2026!
If you've ever thought, “I should get involved one day” — 2026 is your year! Let’s make 2026 bigger, brighter and even more connected. Subiaco Primary has a wonderful community — we’d love you to be part of it. We are still looking for an amazing Events Coordinator (or 2) ...
Events Coordinator: This role can be taken on in its entirety or split into the two roles below in 2026. We’d love to hear from you if you’re interested!
-
Events Admin Coordinator: Love planning, lists and organising from home? This behind-the-scenes hero helps prepare everything ‘admin’ before the big day.
-
Events Ops Coordinator: Prefer being hands-on and feel like you’re a doer? This role is all about bringing the event to life, guiding volunteers, and creating that fun buzz on the day.
General Events & Fundraising Committee members: Join a great team of volunteers to help organise our fantastic events and fundraising activities. If you have events, graphic design, communications or just enthusiasm to get involved in our school community, please contact our Events & Fundraising team at events@subiprimarypc.com.au
Joining the P&C is fun, social and rewarding — and a great way to be part of the heartbeat of our school. You can give a little or a lot; every contribution makes a difference. We’d especially love to hear from anyone with specialist skills who could help bring fresh ideas to our 2026 events.
No prior experience is needed — just a willingness to get involved. Outgoing members will provide a full handover. To find out more about the P&C, what we do and how you can get involved, visit our page on the Subi PS website.
P&C AGM
The P&C AGM was held on Tuesday 3 March. Along with electing all Office Bearers, we were pleased to introduce a new Strategic Projects Committee, which will be led by Tamara Brestovac. This new committee will help the P&C position itself well to respond to upcoming opportunities and challenges, including the Council Building Redevelopment and the anticipated growth in student numbers.
Looking ahead, the P&C will also be working on developing a long-term plan in collaboration with the school, parents and the wider community to help identify future projects and opportunities for our school, supported by thoughtful financial planning. This includes planning for the generous grant the P&C received from the Subiaco Children’s Centre, for which we are extremely grateful. In 2026, the P&C will also shift its focus toward non-capital initiatives, particularly in the areas of community building, experiences and programs for our students, and sustainability efforts.
Details for Office Bearers and Committee members will soon be available on the school website, please contact president@subiprimarypc.com.au if you are interested in volunteering time in any of the P&C sub-committees in 2026.
Class Liaison Parents
If your class is yet to nominate a Class Liaison Parent (CLP) and you’re interested, please get in touch with Genelle Cox - CLP@subiprimarypc.com.au. This is an important and enjoyable role in connecting the school community. CLPs also assist the P&C by helping to promote events within their class and year groups and seeking volunteers for these events. Please notify your class teacher if you would like to volunteer as we would like these roles to be filled as soon as possible.

Cultural Breakfast
|
 |
| |
This year we are excited to celebrate the many cultures represented within our school community for Harmony Day.
Our Harmony Day celebration will take place on Tuesday, 24 March.
To mark the occasion, we will be hosting a Cultural Breakfast on the verandah outside the library from 8:00am–8:45am, followed by a Harmony Day Parade in the undercover area at 9:00am.
To make this celebration a success, we warmly invite parents and carers to volunteer and contribute a cultural dish that represents their nationality or heritage. Sharing food is a wonderful way to celebrate the diversity within our community.
Please note: We are a NUT AWARE school. Kindly ensure that any food provided does not contain nuts and is mindful of allergies.
If you can contribute, please email the following information to sandra.thornett@education.wa.edu.au by Tuesday 17 March.

We look forward to celebrating Harmony Day together and sharing the rich cultural diversity of our school community.
Kind regards

Uniform Shop News
|
 |
| |
Even though we are still enjoying hot days, it is a great time to start thinking about your child's winter uniforms.
Our delivery of Maroon Polar Fleece Jackets for Year 1 to Year 6 students has arrived. Sizes range from 4 to 16.
Our very popular Rain Jackets have been ordered and will arrive early in Term Two. The Rain Jacket is excellent for children who walk or ride to school, keeping them dry and cosy. They features a rain hood tucked neatly in the collar and are suitable to wear all day, as the lining is soft maroon polar fleece fabric. I suggest buying one size larger than your child usually wears in the gold polos, to ensure a comfy fit with room to grow!
Fleecy Maroon Track Pants in all sizes will be available for Term Two. Available in sizes 6 to 14, they are warm and look great teamed with a long sleeved Gold Polo and a jacket.
Maroon Leggings are also available instore with more stock of depleted sizes to arrive in Term Two. Also available are maroon warm tights for wearing under dresses.
For our Kindy and Pre-primary students, the Winter Jacket in Dark Royal is available in sizes 4 to 10. Matching Fleecy Track pants are available in sizes 4 to 8. The red long sleeved Polos are great for chilly days and available instore now.
Our pre-loved rack is very full with some great specials if you're looking for a bargain! Prices start from a low $5. Its a good way to save some money and prevent these clothes going to landfill!
No donations are needed at the moment, many thanks to those who have donated clean, quality items.
I look forward to helping you with all your Winter purchases.
Please remember if ordering online to fill in your child's name and classroom number. shop.subiprimarypc.com.au

Saturday 7th March
There’s a lovely buzz around the market this week with fresh, creamy avocados, crispy cauliflower, and plenty of seasonal goodness to fill your basket. It’s the kind of produce that makes cooking simple, comforting, and really satisfying.
Make sure you grab a loaf from Wild Bakery — think crusty sourdough baguettes and beautiful mixed grain loaves — then take a moment to slow down and enjoy some live music while you wander. Come for the food, stay for the vibe.
