What's On in the Arts in Central Otago - March

Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery - "Bannockburn - A Place to Stand" by Jan
and Tim Hawkins. "Bannockburn - A Place to Stand" opens at Central Stories on March 1. Tim and Jan Hawkins, long term residents of Bannockburn, have combined their talents to present a snapshot of the town, describing through imagery and words, what it means to be living there in 2024. Stories of a surfing journalist, a solo round the world yachtsman, an ocean rower, a sailor for a research ship to the sub-Antarctic, born and bred Bannockburnians and others from across the world are the focus of this exhibition. Some were drawn to Bannockburn though the nostalgia of happy family holidays, others chose to live there for the twelve
wineries in close proximity. Some are not permanent residents, but it is their bolthole, their future home, or both. Tim's photography and Jan's words shape a portrait of this special part of Central Otago. This exhibition will be on show from March 1 until the end of Easter so get along and take a look. Riverside Gallery, Artist in Residence - Ira Mitchell Award
winning, Queenstown born painter Ira Mitchell is currently artist in residence at the Riverside Gallery in Bannockburn. A selection of her original paintings and some of her prints, (which she is happy to sign), are also on show there. Ira's distinctive paintings feature stunning NZ landmarks and scenery, with the exhibition placing a special focus on works of the lower South Island. The exhibition closes March 4. This project is about identifying what is important to you about living, working or holidaying in Central Otago, what will be important to you and contribute to your wellbeing
in the future and how we can all work together to make sure we take care of the things that matter the most to you. The project will help develop a 50-year vision which will be used to shape Central Otago's future. The survey will include questions like, 'What do you love about Central Otago' and 'What do you want to see for its future'. This is a great opportunity for you to share your aspirations for the future of the Arts, Culture and Heritage in our region. Click HERE for more information and to register.
