Research Spotlight SURG Water: Working to provide safer water for rural healthcare facilitiesSURG Water’s UV-based water treatment technology is transforming maternal health facilities in rural Malawi by providing reliable access to clean, safe water. This groundbreaking initiative, led by Prof. Kevin McGuigan and Dr. Jakub Gajewski of Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), won the Research Ireland – Irish Aid SDG Challenge in 2024, securing €1.1 million in funding to further develop and scale its solar-powered disinfection reactor over two years. HEI nomination deadline is 20th February 2026. Full deadline is 7th May 2026. This initiative aims to conduct partnership development activities between creative economy researchers and wider stakeholders in Ireland and the UK. Deadline is 24th March 2026. Research Ireland Public Service Fellowship This initiative offers researchers a unique opportunity to be temporarily seconded to Government Departments and Agencies (Host Organisations) to work on specific projects where they can add value.
