SURG Water: Working to provide safer water for rural healthcare facilities

SURG Water’s UV-based water treatment technology is transforming maternal health facilities in rural Malawi by providing reliable access to clean, safe water.

This groundbreaking initiative, led by Prof. Kevin McGuigan and Dr. Jakub Gajewski of Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), won the Research Ireland – Irish Aid SDG Challenge in 2024, securing €1.1 million in funding to further develop and scale its solar-powered disinfection reactor over two years.
