This month's webinar

Visual storytelling: your eDNA results in context

12.30 pm, Wednesday 10 August

Storytelling is a powerful tool for sharing your mahi with a wider audience – be it your whānau, community, local council or potential funders.

This webinar takes you through the basics of using StoryMaps, an online storytelling platform using maps, words and images. We'll also share ways you can use your "wheel of life" graphic from Wilderlab to show what species you discovered, including interactive activities you can do as a group.

This webinar is for participants from our autumn sampling intake, but anyone is welcome to attend.

Announcing successful projects

We received 45 proposals from groups wishing to undertake an eDNA project using up to 24 eDNA kits to explore a question about their local waterway.

We will be contacting those who submitted a proposal next week with the outcome and will be publishing a list of successful projects on our website at www.epa.govt.nz/eDNA under "Get involved".

We're excited to share more details on the successful projects in early September– keep an eye out!

What's happening at the EPA

  • We wrapped up our sponsorship of the FMG Young Farmer of the Year contest series, attending the grand final in Whangārei. We contributed theoretical and practical challenges to test contestants’ knowledge and understanding of environmentally sustainable farming practices.

  • A fumigant called ethanedinitrile or EDN (used to kill pests in timber and logs) can now be imported, manufactured, and used under strict conditions.
