Watch: July construction updateIn the latest construction update video, Christchurch City Council Project Director Kent Summerfield shares the latest news from Te Kaha – which is also to be known as One New Zealand Stadium. Half of the 40 radial truss roof supports have been installed, and six radial diaphragm modules (RDMs) are also in place, extending over the south stand. In the last couple of weeks, work to infill the pre-assembled RDMs has started. Overall, the roof structure in the south stand is well progressed. The project is entering a challenging phase - building the roof for the covered stadium. The first roof truss will be installed in August. There are around 350 people working on site each day to make it happen. Collectively, the team has now clocked over 900,000 work hours. The video also offers a look inside the corporate boxes in the west stand. The four-storey stand is a hive of construction activity, with crews currently working on service installations, wall framing, and glazing. Overall, the project remains within budget and on track to open in April 2026. New sponsorship name announcedOne New Zealand has been unveiled as the naming rights partner of Te Kaha, Canterbury's Multi-Use Arena. Once completed, One New Zealand Stadium will be managed by the Council’s venue and event management company, Venues Ōtautahi, who negotiated the sponsorship deal. Christchurch Mayor Phil Mauger said he is "stoked" with the work Venues Ōtautahi has put in to get this new partnership across the line. “This announcement is so exciting for Christchurch, as it’s a huge step towards realising this world-class venue that our city has waited so long for. "We can’t wait to welcome artists, sporting fixtures and corporate events to One New Zealand Stadium, and to show the world that Christchurch is the sporting and events capital of New Zealand,” Mayor Mauger said. The partnership spans 10 years, from 2026 - 36. Water upgrades starting around the arenaWork on essential water upgrades around Te Kaha gets under way this month. Contractors Isaac Construction have been engaged to upgrade the pipes and water infrastructure around the arena. The team will be on site from Monday 15 July until early 2025 completing the water works. Residents and businesses can sign up for text alerts from Isaac Construction. Stadium featured in new muralŌtautahi Christchurch artist, Dcypher, has created a new mural featuring the city's new arena. Located at 62 Manchester street, the mural is one of two that have popped up in the central city after receiving funding from the Enliven Places Progamme, which seeks to create an attractive, fun and welcoming environment. We’re installing walls, ceilings skirting and doorways in the corporate boxes and stands. The best part of my job is working with other trades. It makes me better, expanding my knowledge. Past projects: I’ve worked on the Convention Centre, hospital, and a school in Belfast. Outside of work… I’m a dad and enjoy hiking and fishing – even though I never catch anything, I still love it! Site progress photosIf you want to regularly keep track of how the construction at Te Kaha is progressing, we regularly publish images on the News and Announcements page of our website. What to expect over the coming monthsThe next six months of the Te Kaha project will see work continue on the superstructure bowl, and the roof installation getting underway. Because of the huge size of the project, the different stages will overlap to streamline the process. That means as one phase of work progresses across the site (working from south to north), the next phase will follow closely behind it. Q3 2024 - Radial roof column trusses will continue to be installed around the perimeter of the arena. Roof cantilevers will continue to be installed ahead of the roof steel erection that spans across the field of play. Internal fit-out works will progress to all stands. Concrete seating plats will continue to be installed progressively to the northwest stand and low levels of all stands. Q4 2024 - Radial roof column trusses will continue to be installed at the northern end of the arena. Roof cantilevers will continue to be installed ahead of the roof steel erection that spans across the field of play. Cladding to the outside of the arena will commence and internal fit-out works will continue in all stands. Metalwork handrails will start being installed in the seating areas.
