Comings and Goings at the ECI

Dr Michael Golding has been appointed as the Clinical Director, Emergency Care Institute NSW. Michael has extensive emergency medicine experience working in Australia and abroad. Michael will commence in September 2017 when he completes his sabbatical working as a consultant at Queens Hospital in London. Michael will continue to work part time as a consultant at Prince of Wales Hospital Randwick where he was the ED Director until 12 months ago.

In August the ECI farewelled Dr Lucy Harten-Ash and Dr Gabrielle Mane who completed their 6 month special skills term. We also had the pleasure of welcoming two new trainees:

Dr Joseph Marwood:

  • E: joseph.marwood@health.nsw.gov.au
  • P: (02) 9464 4678

Dr Anne Walton

  • E: anne.walton@health.nsw.gov.au
  • P: (02) 9464 4678

The ECI will also lose another valuable team member at the end of August. Zafirul Hussain, has been with the ECI for nearly two years. He has decided to take a career break for 12 months. Zafir has led a busy program of work facilitating small group discussions reviewing emergency department (ED) incidents, developing an ED incident management database, supporting the statewide Information Systems and Technology Advisory Committee and Incident Advisory Committee for the ECI.

We wish Zafir all the best for his next challenge.

The ECI is currently in the process of recruiting to this position.

Emergency Department Visits to WNSWLHD

In late June the ECI team was fortunate to visit some EDs in Western NSW LHD. The trip kicked off in Dubbo with an education session for RNs and Nurse Educators on the Nurse Delegated Emergency Care (NDEC) model. We’re very grateful to Helen Stevens, Paediatric CNC from Hunter New England LHD for coming to Dubbo to deliver the session, to Clint Grose for coordinating the event locally and to the group of enthusiastic participants who attended.

Over the following day and a half we visited the Emergency Departments at Dubbo Hospital, Molong Multipupose Service, Canowindra Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Blayney Multipupose Service and Bathurst Health Service. It’s always very informative for us to go on site visits. It was a pleasure to visit these EDs and talk to staff about their services. Many thanks to all involved.
