My Country is My Prison

Six Master of Laws (LLM) students -  Emily Williams, Fernanda Souza, Holly Hayes, James Spillane, Maria Tapias Serrano and Shauna Joyce - from the Irish Centre for Human Rights have launched a five-episode podcast series titled ‘My Country is My Prison’.

The podcast series aims to promote awareness of human rights violations perpetrated against women and children in Ireland’s institutions in the 20th century, using international human rights law as an illustrative framework.

All five episodes, along with two bonus episodes that feature the full length interviews conducted with survivor Elizabeth Coppin and Dr Conor O’Mahony, the special rapporteur on child protection, are available on Spotify.

Support & Academic Mentors Needed!

University of Sanctuary Mentor Information Session

As part of the University of Sanctuary (UoS) Scholarship Programme, incoming Sanctuary scholars will be paired with both Academic and Support mentors from among University staff in an effort to make the transition to third-level education as seamless as possible. The UoS Support Mentoring Programme is modelled on Foróige’s Big Brother, Big Sister programme (pairing a staff member with a student) while the Academic Mentoring Programme falls in line with other mentoring programmes across the University.  Academic Mentors are paired with scholars for the duration of their studies, while Support Mentors will be paired with scholars for their first year of study so there is plenty of time to develop meaningful and long-lasting relationships.

Information session on the UoS mentoring programme for interested persons on Friday, 12th August at 2.00pm in the Art Room (first Floor) in Áras Na Mac Léinn.

For more information on the UoS Scholarship Programme and UoS mentoring, email uni.sanctuary@nuigalway.ie or visit our website.
