Click here June 20204th Annual (Virtual) Awards CeremonyWith our annual awards ceremony postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our faculty and staff were determined to still celebrate our graduates and honors students for all their hard work. Thanks to these dedicated faculty, staff, and two of grad students we were able to create videos to celebrate our honors and awards students this year. We are particularly excited to announce a new award added to the lineup this year: the Outstanding Alumni Award. Our alumni are a passionate, giving group. They are our biggest advocates and cheerleaders. Our faculty wanted a way to recognize those alumni who give back and support the School and our students. This year’s Outstanding Alumni Award goes to Allyson Wadman ’17. Congratulations to Allyson and all our student honorees! Interdisciplinary Degree Helps Create Global CitizensLast year, we welcomed our first graduate of the new Global Communication and World Languages major and in May we added two more students to that list. The interdisciplinary major created with Wilkinson College combines the theory of communication with language and culture. For Beatrice Lam ’19, this major helped her reconnect with her multicultural roots and Sarina Welsh ’20, was able to connect her Thai heritage with her love of Italian culture and language. Read more about their experience with the major through their blogs. Alumni, Share Your Story! The School of Communication values the knowledge and experience of our alumni. Share your professional accomplishments, experience and advice with current and prospective students as well as fellow alumni. Wil Del Pilar ’95Vice President for Higher Education at The Education Trust Wil Del Pilar graduated in 1995 from Chapman University with a degree in Communication Studies with an emphasis in Public Relations. Getting his start in higher education as a work-study student in Chapman's admission office, Wil has since focused his career on creating opportunities for students of color. In early 2020 with the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, his work has focused on ways to help this community of students most affected by the pandemic and the increased barriers to education it presents. Some Personal Questions Are Perfectly Legit in a Job InterviewNow that you can expect to work from home for at least a little while, or perhaps for quite a while, employers can ask probing questions about how you manage to get things done when you’re on your own. You might even get some questions about your physical space, including where you take video calls, how good your Internet connection is, and when you typically begin and end your day. Prep for these five unexpected questions and see the sample answers to ace a job interview (and be successful on-the-job, too). Class of 2020 Career InformationWelcome to our new class of alumni!
