What's On May 2013

I can hear chainsaws which signals to me that winter is looming, so get out and enjoy every bit of warmth and sunshine we have left. The grape harvest has virtually finished and from all accounts, 2013 will be a great vintage.

Last month was full to the brim with arts events; Wanaka’s Festival of Colour has been hailed a huge success with sell-out performances, standing ovations and excellent reviews. Our hats go off to the organisers for presenting such an amazing line-up. Arrowtown’s Autumn Festival was also a fantastic success with beautiful golden weather and people enjoying the wonderful and varied programme of events.

There is an interesting exhibition on at Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery until 27th May called Fragments – Artists I Know. Photographer, Eric Schusser has depicted and profiled 15 Central Otago artists he knows and they all have some work in the exhibition. You can read each artist’s statement and Eric has photographed them all as part of the show.

Maniototo is pulling out all the stops during the weekend of 17th-19th May, with their annual Bards, Ballads and Bulldust Festival. Over 35 performers, poets and musicians will be there to entertain at various classic country venues all around the area.

With all the shows, exhibitions and films listed below, we know you find something of interest and enjoyment - it’s the spice of life.
