November 2022 Newsletter

Dear Friend,

Wow! It is November, I can't believe it! The end of the year is quickly approaching, and we have so many exciting events still to come this year! I hope to see many of you at DBU during the holiday season!

During this season of thankfulness, I have been encouraged to reflect on the past as I look toward the future. There are specific moments in my life where I can look back and see the people, opportunities, and opened and closed doors that the Lord placed in my path to prepare me for what He had planned for me now. I may not have understood at that moment but now see so clearly His hand through it all.

Psalm 143:8 is a verse that I refer to often, it reads: Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.

Each of you are a testament of this verse. The Lord has used specific people and opportunities that led you to Dallas Baptist University. My prayer is that we are reminded of His unfailing love as we share our lives, commit to praying and caring for our students and support the mission of Dallas Baptist University.

Keep scrolling to see what exciting events are happening here at DBU!

This year we want each of you to consider how you can pray, serve, and give supporting DBU through the Women's Auxiliary Board.  Here are some practical ways to become involved this fall:

DBU All-University Prayer Requests

DBU Volleyball: Head Coach Jordan Fish and Assistant Coach Bri Coleman have led our team to earn the most wins since 2013! They are 8-0 at home and are on a 7 -game winning streak. Coach Fish says, "Everyone has really gelled and come together. I am so proud of how we are operating as a team."  The Lone Star Conference Tournament is November 10-11. Pray for safe travels and a successful tournament run that might lead to post-conference play.   Coach Jordan also asks we pray for the following: That the girls would stay healthy throughout the remainder of the season, healing for injuries and body aches as we enter into the second half of the season and that every player would know God on a deeper level and that they would put their trust in Him.

PRAISE from Jon Pendergrass, Career & Professional Development: “We want to share a big praise for DBU’s first College of Business Career Expo on Wednesday, October 26! Hundreds of students attended this event and engaged with some of our region’s top firms. Our students dressed for success and impressed all the talent acquisitions managers. We had over 150 students take advantage of the free headshots we offered to enhance their professional profiles. We are a sending university! Every day we have the opportunity to prepare the hearts and minds of students, equipping them to lead before sending them out to serve. I want to thank all the faculty and staff who prayed for our students as they took the first step in their journey to find and fulfill God’s calling on their lives.”

Patriot Previews - November 12 and November 19: Please pray for Patriot Preview as junior and senior high school students travel to DBU for a campus visit. Patriot Preview is an opportunity for prospective students and their parents to learn about DBU. These visits are critical to the success of our future enrollment. Please pray that God will use this time to help quality students of Christian character, distinguished scholarship, and outstanding leadership see the value of attending DBU.

DBU Homecoming, November 14-19: Pray for Matt Duce, Director of Alumni Affairs, as he leads the planning for this full week of activities. Pray for great weather for the entire weekend as many of our events are outside. Pray for safety as the DBU Family travels to University Hill. Pray that everyone on University Hill will make meaningful connections with their classmates and friends. Pray for the safety of all of the basketball players, cheerleaders, Patriettes, and all those in attendance on Saturday.

PRAYER REQUESTS

For the 2022-2023 year, the DBU Women's Auxiliary Board Staff, Chaplain Patty Lovvorn, and our Executive Committee are committing to pray for the needs of our members and their loved ones. Please let us know how we can pray for you by following this link: Prayer Request Form

  • Serve hot chocolate and cookies while DBU students construct their Homecoming floats!  This event will be Wednesday, November 16 during the evening.  To RSVP, follow this link: Cookies and Cocoa

  • Blanket and Coat Drive - Let's clean out our closets and provide new and gently used coats and blankets for students in need.  Particularly when students move from other countries to come to college, they cannot fit a bulky coat or blanket in their luggage.  These items will be essential in the coming winter.  Stash a Bible verse or prayer in the pocket and bless DBU students with the warmth of a coat or blanket this season.  Bring your donations any time you are on campus for Homecoming, the Ruth Awards Luncheon, or just stop by.  Our office is in the Pilgrim Chapel, Suite 202!

  • Scholarships are always a great way to support DBU.  Students are transformed personally from receiving a Christ-centered higher education at DBU but need a little help financially. To contribute, go to www.dbu.edu/give.  Choose "Student Scholarships."  You may also send a check in the mail to Dallas Baptist University, 3000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211.
