Announcements

Introducing the Chapman Research Administration Community (CRAC)

The Office of Research and Graduate Education is launching a new community for staff who support faculty with sponsored program administration. This initiative aims to enhance communication and resource sharing across units. Representatives from the Office of Research’s Pre- and Post-Award teams will be available to discuss current topics in proposal development and award management. These quarterly meeting will be on teams with one meeting a year in person. The first meeting will be in person on August 6th at 10 am in Von Neumann Hall conference room. RSVP is required. 

 

National Science Foundation (NSF) MRI Submission Window Cancellation

The NSF MRI submission window for 2025 that was advertised in our June newsletter has been cancelled. The internal competition for the limited submission for the next cycle in 2026 will be announced in June 2026. NSF will be holding a short webcast to present its plans for FY 2026 on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. EDT and will last no more than 1/2 hour. If you wish to attend please register.

 

NIH Public Access Policy Now in Place

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has implemented a new public access requirement for Author Accepted Manuscripts accepted for publication in a journal on or after July 1, 2025, funded by NIH.  See NIH Public Access FAQs and Nature NIH-funded science must now be free to read instantly: what you should know.

 

Upcoming Funding Opportunities

NIH Director's New Innovator Award (DP2 - Clinical Trial Optional): RFA-RM-25-002

The New Innovator Award supports remarkably creative early-stage investigators proposing highly innovative and high-impact projects. The New Innovator Award has the following characteristics:

  • Single-PI applications only
  • PI must have Early Stage Investigator status
  • No preliminary data required
  • $475,000 direct costs per year for 5 years

NIH Director’s Transformative Research Award (R01 - Clinical Trial Optional): RFA RM-25-003
The Transformative Research Award supports individuals or teams proposing groundbreaking, original, and/or unconventional research with the potential to create new scientific paradigms, establish new and improved clinical approaches, or develop transformative technologies. The Transformative Research Award has the following characteristics:

  • Open to all career stages
  • Accepts single-PI or multi-PI applications
  • No preliminary data or detailed experimental plan required
  • Flexible budget

NIH Director's Pioneer Award (DP1 - Clinical Trial Optional): RFA-RM-25-001
The Pioneer Award supports scientists with outstanding records of creativity proposing pioneering approaches to major challenges in any area of science relevant to the broad mission of NIH. The Pioneer Award has the following characteristics:

  • Open to all career stages
  • Single-PI applications only
  • No preliminary data required
  • Must be new scientific research direction
  • $700,000 direct costs per year for 5 years

Chapman University Named Co-Lead on AI Governance and Implementation Grant

The Leatherby Libraries and Information Systems & Technology are pleased to announce Chapman University’s participation in the Advancing AI Governance and Implementation at Emerging Research Institutions project alongside Ithaka S+R and Montclair State University. This project will include a series of workshops that will invite participants from local emerging research institutions to interact and identify potential areas for AI implementation and collaboration opportunities.

From Clicks to Code: Learning R with RStudio in a New Workshop Series

Our STEM Librarian, Dr. Elaine Yeung, will be hosting a 3-part introductory workshop series designed to teach faculty, staff, and students the basics of R and RStudio to effectively work with and visualize data. There will be an online and in-person option for participants. No prior programming experience is required. These workshops will take place on:

  • July 24 – From Clicks to Code: Learning R with R Studio
  • July 31- Data Wrangling and Basic Statistics in R Programming
  • August 7- Creating Graphs with R Programming
