![]() Transition to winter mode may cause odourAs we move into winter, and temperatures cool down, the biology of the ponds changes. This can result in a short-term increase in odour coming from the ponds during this transition period from summer into winter. We've already noticed a slight increase odour coming from the ponds, and with settled weather conditions forecast this weekend we expect this might increase. Wet and windy conditions are expected mid next week which should help stabilise the odour. While occasional odour events may occur over the winter period, we're not anticipating them to be strong or persistent. This is because monitoring of pond health since the fire (in November 2021) has shown a slow but consistent improvement. As always, we're doing all we can to operate the plant in a way that minimises odours and we'll continue to provide updates via this newsletter. Clarifier repairs completeRepairs to leaks in Clarifiers #3 and #4 were completed successfully and the temporary activated sludge plant was returned to service on 28 March. Since then the plant has been operating well and the ponds have been responding positively to the cleaner effluent being discharged into them.
