CEO Message

Hello good people,

I hope this finds you all well and in good spirits.

What a busy year it’s been, they just keep getting faster. Christmas is almost upon us.

It was fantastic to catch up with over 120 members and clients at our AGM recently. Getting to share the past year with you all was a treat and lunch was excellent. As per normal we had a great representation from our Ayr folks. Always great to see you in Townsville. Once again, your Management Committee for 2021/22 will be:

Due to the introduction of the Improved Payment Arrangements by the Government on the 1st of September, Everglow must now exercise standard business practice in ensuring outstanding client payments are collected in accordance with our payment terms. The government no longer pays providers in advance or in full.

Previously, we advised that your HCP Statement generated from our new management system would show an unspent amount held by Everglow and an unspent amount held by government. However, we have recently been advised that government procedures for reporting the retained funds have not been finalised; consequently, we are unable to show the separated amounts on the statement at this stage. We have further been advised that this will be finalised and available on statements early in the new year.

Your statement will continue to show the combined unspent funds that are held by Everglow for your care and service provision, and that held by the Government. If you would like to know the amount that is being held by government, please contact us on phone 4725 1822 during business hours 8.30am to 4.30pm and we can make an enquiry on your behalf.

Remember, if you move to another provider, your unspent funds must be returned to the Government to manage, not as it was previously – transferred to your new provider.

Additionally, in response to client feedback on the monthly statements, Everglow has moved to a new care management system which will generate your monthly statements, beginning with your November statement. Your statements will be itemised showing the services that you have spent your package funds on for the previous month and you will receive the first of the new statements in December.

If you have any questions about your statement or services, please do not hesitate to speak with your Case Manager.

Our latest round of regional information sessions was greatly attended. This time we partnered with Jane Ross and Krystal from Ross & Robins Lawyers to provide an overview of the changes made to the Enduring Power of Attorney and your rights in ensuring it is constructed to ensure your wishes are carried out to avoid confusion and misuse, should it need to be used.

Information from Jane and Krystal can be obtained from our Hugh Street or Ayr offices.

I hope that you have all taken advantage of the increased vaccination options and location to ensure you are vaccinated against COVID19. Our staff most certainly have, with 81% of all staff receiving either one or two doses.

Mediterranean Chickpea Salad -  The Most Satisfying Lunch 

Ingredients (For the Salad)

• 2 cans of chickpeas, drained and rinsed
• 1 medium cucumber, chopped
• 1 bell pepper, chopped
• 1/2 cup chopped kalamata olives
• 1/2 cup crumbled feta
• Kosher salt
• Freshly ground black pepper

Ingredients for the lemon - parsley vinaigrette

• 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil
• 1/4 cup white wine vinegar
• 1 tablespoon lemon juice
• 1 tablespoon freshly chopped parsley
• 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
• Kosher salt
• Freshly ground black pepper

 Instructions

1. Make salad: In a large bowl, toss together chickpeas, cucumber, bell pepper, red onion, olives and feta. Season with salt and pepper.
2. Make vinaigrette: Ina jar fitted with a lid, combine olive oil, vinegar, lemon juice, parsley and red pepper flakes. Close the jar and shake until emulsified, then season with salt and pepper.
3. Dress salad with vinaigrette just before serving.
