Your membership dues cover membership from May 2023 - May 2024, and include invitations, emails, and newsletters that encourage you to participate and contribute to DBU as well as to attend all luncheon events hosted by the auxiliary. If you would like to volunteer for a committee after reading these descriptions, please email me at leslie@dbu.edu. New Student Reception (August 16, 17, January 10): This reception is held at the President’s home each August. The committee assists the President and Mrs. Wright as they receive and meet new students entering the new academic year. You will receive an email in July to determine if you are still available to serve, then another email in August giving instructions on parking and arrival time. At the reception, ladies on this committee serve as hostesses welcoming new students to DBU, serving refreshments, conversing with students, and cleaning up as the students leave. (Time commitment: one afternoon in August) Yellow Ribbon Luncheon (September 6): The Yellow Ribbon Luncheon is held at the beginning of the fall semester each year and serves as a kickoff of the new academic year. Yellow ribbons adorn the campus welcoming students' “home” to University Hill. Ladies on this committee meet to determine a theme, menu, and decorations. They are all highly encouraged to purchase a table and fill it with friends that would support DBU or want to know more about DBU’s Christian mission. (Time commitment: one committee meeting in June or July, one afternoon decorating the day before the luncheon in September, luncheon day) FLOW International Luncheon (Free Lunch On Wednesdays) (September 27, 2023, Spring 2024 date: TBA): Ladies on this committee financially sponsor and serve international cuisine to DBU students attending a Baptist Student Ministries luncheon. The luncheon is free to the students. (Time commitment: one lunch (1 ½ hours) in the fall, and one lunch (1 ½ hours) in the spring) Ruth Awards Luncheon (December 6, 2023): The Ruth Awards Luncheon is held each December and honors 2-3 ladies who have showed the loyalty and commitment to Christian ideals and DBU, similar to the characteristics of Ruth in the Bible. Ladies on this committee meet to determine a menu and help bring others to learn more about DBU. Committee members are highly encouraged to purchase a table and fill it with friends that would support DBU or want to know more about DBU’s Christian mission. They also assist the award winners before and after the luncheon. (Time commitment: one committee meeting in September, one afternoon setting up for the luncheon the day prior to the luncheon, luncheon day) Bluebonnet Luncheon (April 3, 2024): The Bluebonnet Luncheon is held each spring and highlights events and activities that have occurred during the academic year and celebrates international students who are graduating in May. Ladies on this committee meet to determine a theme, menu, decorations, and gifts for the international graduates. They are all highly encouraged to purchase a table and fill it with friends that would support DBU or want to know more about DBU’s Christian mission. (Time commitment: one committee meeting in February, one afternoon setting up for the luncheon the day prior to the luncheon, luncheon day) Honors Day Reception Committee (May 1, 2024): Ladies on this committee serve as hostesses at a reception after the Honors Day Chapel. They bake cookies and serve cookies and punch at the reception. (Time commitment: preparation of cookies, one hour on the day of the reception) Ministry to Missionary Children – Committee chair determines times and ministries to the 20-25 missionary children who attend DBU this academic year. In the past the committee has provided treats, school supplies, snacks, gift cards, notes of encouragement, and lunch for the students throughout the year, usually during the beginning of each semester, holidays, and during final exams. (Time commitment: 2-3 hours, 3 times each academic year depending on activities planned by chair) Other Ministry Opportunities – We usually have needs that we try to meet for the students and the campus both physically and financially. These could include collecting housewares for international student apartments, a coat and/or blanket drive, and raising funds for campus projects (buildings, scholarships, etc.) This year we want each of you to consider how you can pray, serve, and give supporting DBU through the Women's Auxiliary Board. Here are some practical ways to become involved this summer: DBU All-University Prayer Requests Academic Advising - This month, hundreds of new students will meet with an advisor to build their class schedule for the fall when they attend New Patriot Orientation. Pray that our advisors will develop personal and purposeful relationships with students. Ask God to give students peace as they sign up for classes. Pray that He will grant our students favor as they seek financial aid and scholarships. Physical Operations - Please pray for the Physical Operations team throughout the summer. They work so hard to keep our campus looking beautiful and running smoothly. Please pray that God will strengthen, refresh, and protect them as they carry out their duties, often for hours in the Texas sun. Praise God for their hard work! Jewel House and Stone House - Jewel House is a Living Learning Community that provides discipleship through mentoring to female freshmen residents. Stone House does the same for their male residents. Please be praying the Lord would prepare the hearts of the incoming residents to fully embrace this program that will impact their entire college career and life after college. Pray that the Lord would provide wisdom for the upperclassmen mentors as they lead students their freshman year. Join us in praising God for the great opportunity these students have. DBU Athletics' Summer Camps - This summer, DBU Athletics will host youth camps and clinics on the DBU main campus for kids and teens, led by our coaching staff. Please pray that young athletes will not only gain new skills but also be receptive as our coaches share the gospel in each camp. Germany Study Trip - Students will experience Germany through the lens of World War II as they investigate the lives of both great and infamous leaders, explore concentration camps, and see how God used courageous Christians during this dark time in history. Pray for our students as they learn from professors in religion, leadership, psychology, and history. They left for Germany yesterday, May 18. New Patriot Orientation, May 30 - It's already time to welcome our next freshman class to DBU. We have several orientations throughout the summer during which students will register for classes and experience life at DBU first-hand. Our first New Patriot Orientation event launches on May 30th. Pray that students and their families will leave feeling excited and at peace about the momentous change coming next fall when they move onto University Hill. Summer Rec Teams - Summer is just around the corner, and we are making final preparations for DBU to serve camp ministries. The DBU Summer Rec Teams will be traveling to serve alongside various camps and churches throughout the state. We are praying for the safety and health of our teams as they minister to children and teens around Texas. We especially pray that Jesus’ name would be reflected and glorified in all that they do. Summer Camps on DBU Campus - DBU is gearing up to host various camps and ministries on campus for the summer. These will consist of Christian youth camps, mission-oriented trainings, athletic camps, and more. Please pray that the Lord will move in the lives of students, staff, and campers. Pray for these young people as they interact with DBU faculty and staff and as they see the scriptures posted throughout our campus. We are also praying that many of the campers who will be introduced to life at DBU will one day choose to join the DBU Family as students in the years to come. DBU Athletics – Praise be to God for the Patriot Baseball Team winning their new conference, Conference USA. DBU will find out in the next few days if we will be the host for the regional tournament for the NCAA Baseball Tournament. If DBU is selected to host, please pray that people who visit our campus will sense the Lord’s presence and be drawn to him when they return home. Pray for the exposure of the university to new students and future students as they come to watch baseball. DBU Women's Auxiliary Board Member Prayer Requests For the 2022-2023 year, the DBU Women's Auxiliary Board Staff, Chaplain Patty Lovvorn, and our Executive Committee are committing to pray for the needs of our members and their loved ones. Please let us know how we can pray for you by following this link: Prayer Request Form Scholarships are always a great way to support DBU. Students are transformed personally by receiving a Christ-centered higher education at DBU but need help financially. To contribute, go to www.dbu.edu/give. Choose "Student Scholarships." You may also send a check in the mail to Dallas Baptist University, 3000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211. Spring 2023 Scholarship Recipients - Due to your generosity, the Women's Auxiliary Board was able to give four, $3,000 scholarships to students in need for the Spring 2023 semester. Receiving these scholarships has allowed the recipients to continue to pursue their education without worrying about finances. Over the next few months, we will be highlighting each of the four recipients of the Women's Auxiliary Board Scholarships. Read below about Grace Rutherford, a DBU freshman from The Colony, Texas! Grace Rutherford - My name is Grace Rutherford and I am from The Colony, Texas. I’m currently studying digital photography because of my interest in taking and editing photos. I haven’t fully decided what I would like to do after college with my degree, but I know I would love to work in a field where I work with photos and support my church and community with my gift of photography. In the midst of not knowing what I will do, I understand God has a plan, and I look forward to using my gifts for His glory!
